Travel Alert – U.S. Government Shutdown
Expand allDue to the ongoing U.S. government shutdown, major airports across the country are experiencing reduced flight capacity and an increased risk of delays or cancellations. According to AP News, several major airports — including Orlando, Miami, Tampa, and Charlotte — are among those already affected.
We encourage all IAAPA Expo attendees to review their travel plans carefully and take proactive steps to minimize disruption before heading to Orlando for IAAPA Expo 2025 (Nov. 17–21).
Travel Tips for IAAPA Expo Attendees
- Check your flight status early and often
Up to 10% of flights are being cut at more than 40 major U.S. airports due to staffing shortages and air traffic management constraints. Use the National Airspace System Status for real-time updates on delays and cancellations.
- Contact your airline directly
Confirm that your flight is still scheduled as planned — including both departure and arrival times. Airlines are frequently adjusting flight schedules to accommodate reduced operations.
- Allow extra time at the airport
Longer security and check-in lines are expected as TSA and air traffic control staffing remains limited. Arrive earlier than usual to allow sufficient time for check-in and screening.
- Book flexible travel
Choose tickets or carriers that offer no-fee rebooking or strong refund options. (Reuters News reports that many airlines are expanding flexibility policies during the shutdown.)
- Plan alternate routes and backup option
Consider arriving in Orlando a day early in case of delays or cancellations. For international travelers, we strongly recommend avoiding U.S. stopover connections whenever possible and flying directly into Florida or nearby destinations within driving distance of Orlando.
If a U.S. stopover is unavoidable, consider airports where ground transportation options such as car rentals or trains are available — for example, Miami International Airport, which provides multiple routes to Orlando.
- Keep your documentation accessible
Have your itinerary, booking confirmations, and airline contact details available (both digitally and printed) in case you need to make adjustments on short notice.
By staying proactive and flexible, you can minimize travel disruptions and ensure a smooth arrival to IAAPA Expo.
We look forward to welcoming you to Orlando soon — safe travels!
REAL ID Requirements for U.S. Travelers
Beginning May 7, 2025, all U.S. travelers flying domestically must present a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another acceptable form of identification, such as a valid U.S. passport, to board their flight.
REAL ID-compliant licenses are marked with a star in the top corner. If your current license does not have this star, it is not REAL ID-compliant. To avoid travel disruptions when traveling to Orlando for IAAPA Expo, please check your ID and ensure you're prepared.
