“Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle!” is an energetic caper that shrinks guests down to the size of Marvel’s tiniest superheroes at Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL). Riders have a blast as they help Ant-Man and The Wasp defend S.H.I.E.L.D.’s data core against artificial intelligence supervillain Arnim Zola and the Hydra Swarmbot army.
The playful attraction is a collaborative effort with the original movie production team, including the director, composer, and actors. Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly make star appearances in the futuristic queue and ride.
“I still can’t believe I have a ride here,” Rudd said at the launch. “I rode it four times, and I want to ride it 10 more times. When you hit a target, my tip is to keep shooting. You can hit it multiple times in a row.” Peyton Reed, director of the “Ant-Man” movies, said, “In this attraction, you become a part of the adventure.”
A new, Cantonese-speaking Marvel character, Leslie Lam, was specially created for the dark ride. Hong Kong actress Jessica Hsuan plays the chief engineer of the new S.H.I.E.L.D. Science & Technology Pavilion.
Guests wield electromagnetic pulse (EMP) blasters to protect S.H.I.E.L.D.’s data core while riding in ground rovers called Daggers—using Disney’s classic Omnimover dark ride system, also found on classic attractions including “Haunted Mansion.” The film’s trademark humor is evident throughout the adventure. Eagle-eyed fans will appreciate the tiny signage outside the S.H.I.E.L.D. pavilion, which warns that “you must be taller than 1.27 cm to ride” and that ants must be supervised at all times.
“It’s so fun, spotting all the subtle Marvel references while experiencing the ride,” said Marvel fan Kitman Cheung. “It was surprising to see so many Hong Kong elements within a Marvel story. If you’re attentive enough, you’ll catch references to the popular local food, egg tart.” HKDL is presenting new Marvel-themed food and beverage options for guests to enjoy. Two gift shops offer exclusive merchandise.
The ride’s storyline connects with HKDL’s “Iron Man Experience,” which has consistently ranked as one of the park’s most popular attractions since opening in 2017. “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle!” adds extra buzz and expands the park’s Marvel universe. The addition is a key part of HKDL’s multiyear expansion plan, as it aims to become the ultimate hub for Marvel superheroes in Asia.
