What’s New and What’s Next?
DEAR IAAPA MEMBERS:
The August Funworld is always one of my favorites because it’s all about what’s new in the industry. It also reminds me about one of the many reasons I love being in this business … our ongoing quest to innovate and find new ways to put smiles on faces.
When I was at Paramount Parks, a friend (from outside the industry) asked me how my day was going. I told him I had an important meeting earlier that day about how we were going to bring SpongeBob SquarePants to life in a new Nickelodeon attraction. As the words came out of my mouth, I snickered a little inside, thinking how lucky I was. While other people were working in banking or thinking about the efficiency of a production line, I was getting to talk about SpongeBob and a roller coaster that might bear his name! How awesome was that! I can’t think of anything I’d rather do or any other industry I’d rather support.
In this issue, we celebrate some of the most innovative attractions of 2019, including thrilling new coasters, gamified dark rides, immersive simulators, and other never-seen-before entertainment experiences. They are all designed to delight our guests and put even more smiles on people’s faces.
Innovation doesn’t stop with new rides and attractions though … it’s also about new food items, faster ways to serve guests, new technologies, unique ways to motivate young employees, compelling special events, and more efficient ways to maintain attractions. Innovating is what we do, and it’s what keeps our guests coming back for more.
Innovation is also a core value at IAAPA. As we enter our planning season for the association, we are brainstorming new ways to help you grow your business. From making information more easily available to you on the new IAAPA website, to providing useful tools and resources for benchmarking or creating new events to help you strengthen your professional network, we are focused on providing the products and services you want and need. And, our ears are open. If you have any thoughts or suggestions about how we can better help you tackle your challenges and take advantage of your opportunities, please let us know.
I look forward to experiencing your 2019 innovations, and I can’t wait to see what you dream up for the future.
