What to Expect at IAAPA Expo Asia
IAAPA Expo Asia, formerly Asian Attractions Expo, is headed to Shanghai, China, to connect more than 8,500 attractions industry professionals from 60-plus countries with innovative companies on the trade show floor and an inspiring education program. The Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) will host the attractions industry’s premier event in Asia from June 11 to 14. Here are some highlights to note for the upcoming event:
Trade Show Floor
From June 12 to 14, the trade show floor will present groundbreaking products and services from more than 400 exhibiting companies across 13,000 net square meters (34,500 gross square meters) of exhibition space. Key decision-makers and buyers from attractions around the world will have the chance to meet with manufacturers and suppliers representing themed design, games, retail, food and beverage (F&B), ride technology, and more. A First-Time Exhibitor Pavilion will showcase exhibiting companies new to IAAPA Expo Asia.
IAAPA Expo Asia will feature 13 education sessions led by experienced industry leaders to help attendees grow their businesses and advance their careers. Topics include facility operations, marketing, entertainment, security, safety, F&B, human resources, and more. Education sessions will be held at the Jumeriah Hotel (a 10-minute walk from the SNIEC) and be simultaneously translated into English and Mandarin Chinese. Additionally, the IAAPA Institute for Attractions Managers* and the IAAPA Safety Institute* will provide in-depth learning experiences through immersive instruction.
Opening Ceremony and Opening Night Reception
To kick off the IAAPA Expo Asia experience, the Opening Ceremony on June 12 will feature entertainment, updates on the latest developments in the Asia-Pacific region, and a look at what’s ahead for the global attractions industry and IAAPA. The evening’s Opening Night Reception* at Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park will bring attendees together for a celebration complete with a private dinner for attendees and exclusive access to rides and attractions.
Attendees can start their morning on June 13 with the Leadership Breakfast*, where owners and corporate executives representing a variety of constituencies will enjoy breakfast and a keynote presentation by Joe Schott, president and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, that will provide insight on emerging trends and new developments affecting the industry.
Lunch and Learn
The Lunch and Learn* on June 13 will feature Michael Croaker, head of entertainment at Village Roadshow Theme Parks, who will share his insights about integrating different intellectual properties across various countries, cultures, and target audiences. The interactive session will conclude with a question-and-answer period.
New for this year’s event, the Operators’ Reception* in the afternoon on June 13 will offer IAAPA Expo Asia attendees a chance to mix and mingle with industry colleagues and meet the 2019 IAAPA officers.
IAAPA Expo Asia will offer four EDUTours*, providing participants with behind-the-scenes perspectives of the operations at popular Shanghai attractions. On June 11, the first EDUTour will take participants to Shanghai Disney Resort to discover how the F&B team creates unique dining experiences, while the second EDUTour will visit the Shanghai Natural History Museum, one of the largest natural science museums in China. The two EDUTours on June 14 include a second trip to Shanghai Disney Resort, focusing on safety and environmental affairs, and a tour of Hello Kitty Shanghai Times, the first Hello Kitty-themed indoor theme park.
