Strength in Knowledge
More than 200 owners, operators, and industry suppliers will descend on Stone Mountain, Georgia, (just outside of Atlanta) for IAAPA FEC Summit 2020, taking place from Jan. 26 to 28, to learn best practices, share ideas, and grow their businesses. The event, which is developed for family entertainment center (FEC) leaders by FEC leaders, will be held at the Atlanta Evergreen Marriott Conference Resort, with a post tour visiting several local FECs on Jan. 29.
“You will have the greatest minds as it relates to FECs all under one roof,” promises Michael Shelton, IAAPA’s director of program management. “It will be a who’s who of FECs from around the world.”
Learn the Story of the Business
The roll-up-your-sleeves opening keynote by finance expert Alan Miltz will provide a deep dive into scaling up profit cash and value.
“Alan will speak directly to the reality everyone faces,” Shelton explains. “He will show how you can transform your business. All entrepreneurs will want to hear what he has to say.”
Miltz, the founder of Cash Flow Story, in Brighton, Australia, guarantees attendees will have a better understanding of “the story of their business” by the end of his talk.
“I am not doing a sophisticated analysis where you need an external person,” he says. “It’s practical, and every person can implement what I’ve done the second they walk out of my presentation.”
Importantly, Miltz will zero in on the real-world financials of two FECs during the session, helping them interpret their numbers and work out changes to achieve their financial goals.
“Speakers often use the examples of Ikea, Microsoft, and Apple, and the audience tries to relate their business to these global icons,” he says. “But here, we will deal with small- to medium-sized enterprises. They’re unique, so let’s use case studies of the people in the room.”
Facility Tours and More
Following the keynote, attendees will visit Andretti Indoor Karting & Games in nearby Marietta, Georgia, for an up-close facility tour and breakout talks on food and beverage, birthday parties, group events, pricing and packaging, and attractions. An evening cocktail reception and dinner will follow at Andretti Indoor Karting & Games. (Attendees loved the half-day excursion to Austin’s Park n’ Pizza at last year’s IAAPA FEC Summit in Texas, and IAAPA responded to the overwhelmingly positive feedback by bringing back the feature, Shelton says.)
The educational program will continue the next day with an arcade panel, operators’ roundtable, active shooter risk management session, and more.
Once the main event concludes with a wrap-up reception, participants can attend an optional post tour and presentation at several area FECs on Jan. 29, including Stars and Strikes, Malibu Norcross, Tiny Towne, and the brand-new 100,000-square-foot Urban Air. Since the post tour often reaches capacity, IAAPA has opened up additional spots to accommodate the growing interest.
True Collaboration Happens Here
Along with the chance to earn 14 credit hours toward IAAPA Certification, attendees will benefit from the numerous formal (and informal) networking opportunities over the four-day program.
Prizes will be awarded to people who come dressed in their most outlandish “Caddyshack” or green golf wear at the welcome reception at Stone Mountain Golf Club. Owners and operators also will have ample chances to visit the record number of IAAPA FEC Summit sponsors and learn how they can help enhance their business.
“They provide a wealth of information,” stresses Shelton, noting educational opportunities continue outside of the scheduled program when attendees strike up impromptu conversations with each other. “This is where the true collaboration and connectivity happens.”
