Tornado Springs Forecast for England’s Paultons Park
Paultons Park in Hampshire, England, is serving up a slice of Americana in spring 2020. Tornado Springs will recreate the American West desert resort towns that entertained vacationers in the late 1950s when the interstate highway system was first completed.
The new land “represents the single largest and most ambitious investment in the future of Paultons Park since we opened in 1983,” says James Mancey, the park’s operations director. “The Tornado Springs concept is unique to Paultons Park and will significantly extend our capacity to entertain and delight children of all ages.”
Stephen Lorton, the park’s commercial director, hopes “Tornado Springs will continue Paultons Park’s ongoing development as the destination of choice for families with children.” Paultons Park was named the top United Kingdom amusement park in TripAdvisor’s 2019 Travelers’ Choice Awards.
The multimillion-pound addition will cover more than 4 acres and offer several new rides and attractions. “Storm Chaser,” a spinning coaster from Mack Rides, will send riders 20 meters high. Paultons Park is upping the thrill ride ante with “Cyclonator,” a Zamperla pendulum ride capable of swinging and spinning 30 riders. According to the story, “Cyclonator” is a wind-powered invention designed by the townspeople to cut crops.
“Al’s Auto Academy” will be a driving school with electric cars from Formula K. Parents can hit the road with their kids, while older children can take a classic American car out for a spin by themselves. Two “Windmill Towers” family drop towers are designed by Zierer. The “Buffalo Falls” water raft ride and “Trekking Tractors” complete the ride lineup.
MK Themed Attractions and Leisure Expert Group are working on theming and design. “We cannot wait to show the result to the world in May 2020,” says Lars Nielsen, themed attractions specialist at MK Themed Attractions.
Tornado Springs also offers a Route 83 Diner, Al’s Garage shop, and two new playgrounds: “Parking Lot Tots” and “Junkyard Junction.” Tornado Springs is Paultons Park’s fifth themed land, joining Peppa Pig World, Critter Creek, Little Africa, and Lost Kingdom.
Givskud Zoo – Zootopia Cares for Bears in Denmark
Marking its 50th anniversary, Givskud Zoo – Zootopia in Denmark opened Europe’s largest facility for spectacled bears over the summer. The South American spectacled bears became the inspiration for Paddington Bear, the beloved character from English children’s literature.
Two new bears—one male and one female—join the zoo’s existing bear brothers. “We are pleased to have four bears. And, of course, the plan is that that number will be even greater. We plan to accommodate up to 10 bears, which will be almost 20% of Europe’s total population–and thus also Europe’s largest group,” says Kim Skalborg Simonsen, biologist at Givskud Zoo – Zootopia.
The bears’ landscaped habitat stretches more than 3 hectares. The design allows bears to be close together for breeding or separated to ensure cubs are safe with their mother. Children can participate in activities based on the attraction, such as making spectacled bear masks.
