IAAPA EMEA Hosts First Event in Africa
The IAAPA Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) team recently reached a new milestone by presenting its first event in Africa. The IAAPA Institute for Attractions Managers held in Cape Town, South Africa, in August brought together 25 attendees from around the country for two and a half days of learning and networking.
“The IAAPA Institute for Attractions Managers is not a course where attendees just sit and listen; they get to work together on case studies that are quite fun,” says Tom Vandenbroucke, education manager for IAAPA EMEA.
The program focused on six attractions themes led by four speakers: introduction to the attractions industry and finance by Yael Coifman of Leisure Development Partners (LDP), revenue operations and facility operations and safety by Melissa Lockwood of Yas Waterworld, marketing and public relations by Robert Arvidsson of Liseberg, and human resources and leadership by Mikael Ahlerup of Lund Gruppen.
The IAAPA EMEA team worked with the African Association of Visitor Experiences and Attractions (AAVEA) to organize the IAAPA Institute for Attractions Managers, and Sabine Lehmann, executive director of AAVEA, attended the event to participate in the case study portion of the program.
“We really enjoyed our first event in Africa and felt very welcomed, so welcomed that we’re going back next year for the IAAPA EMEA Summit in January in Johannesburg and Cape Town to visit local attractions,” Vandenbroucke says. “We were very happy that IAAPA EMEA could truly service its region completely.”
