IAAPA Education Events in Singapore Present Attendees with Attractions Management and Safety Insights
More than 60 attendees from 10 countries gathered in Singapore for two IAAPA Education events in December. The week began with the two-and-a-half-day IAAPA Institute for Attractions Managers, followed by the one-day IAAPA Safety Institute. Both events were held at the Equarius Hotel at Resorts World Sentosa.
Geared toward leaders with five or fewer years’ experience in attractions management, the IAAPA Institute for Attractions Managers is designed with a blend of classroom instruction led by industry experts, case study examinations, and small group presentations. The program was split into six course modules: introduction to the attractions industry, revenue operations, marketing and public relations, facility operations and safety, human resources and leadership, and financial management.
During the IAAPA Institute for Attractions Managers program, attendees toured Jewel Changi Airport, where they went behind the scenes to the control room of the HSBC Rain Vortex—the world’s tallest indoor waterfall at 40 meters high—and learned how the smart operation system works in Jewel to ensure safety. Following the tour, attendees had the chance to network and view the evening light waterfall show.
The IAAPA Safety Institute provides an opportunity for entry-level attractions operators to examine safety processes and hear from attractions industry experts, consultants, manufacturers, and operators. In addition to a global safety update, attendees learned about safety culture, risk management, and best practices in maintenance and operations.
Speakers for the programs included Zishan Amir, general manager of Mega Adventure Singapore; Cookie S. Bartolome, head of themed experiences at ABS-CBN Corp.; Cecelia Choye, assistant director at Wild Wild Wet; Yael S. Coifman, senior partner with Leisure Development Partners LLP; Shaun McKeogh, ICAE, founder and president of Attractions Academy; Jose “Blue” Reyna III, ICAE, head of the safety and risk management division at Enchanted Kingdom; and Jason Todd, CEO of Attractions Partners International.
