NBA Superstar Shaquille O’Neal Assists in ‘BOLT’ Sea Coaster Reveal
In one of IAAPA Expo’s most memorable moments from the show floor’s first day, NBA superstar Shaquille “Shaq” O’Neal assisted in the reveal of “BOLT: Ultimate Sea Coaster.” Crowds swarmed to grab a peek of him and the first roller coaster at sea presented by Carnival Cruise Line and Maurer Rides (Booth #4803). The open-air thrill ride, debuting in 2020 on the ship Mardi Gras, offers about 700 feet of twists, turns, and drops and reaches speeds of nearly 40 mph. The electric car accelerates faster than a Porsche 911 and zips around 187 feet in the air.
“What can be more fun than riding a roller coaster at the top of a ship?” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.
Both Shaq, the “Chief Fun Officer” at Carnival, and Duffy hopped in the “BOLT” ride vehicle for a quick test run.
“Can you call security to get me out?” joked the towering 7-foot-1-inch global icon as he worked his way out of the ride.
