The IAAPA Institute for Attractions Managers is the attractions industry’s premier professional development program for leaders with five or fewer years’ experience in attractions management.

The intensive two-and-a-half-day program is designed with a blend of classroom instruction led by industry experts, case study examinations, and small group presentations. IAAPA Institute for Attraction Managers participants gain a solid understanding of the key disciplines and processes required to manage a successful attraction. Participants in the IAAPA Institute for Attractions Managers earn 16 credit hours toward IAAPA Certification.

Registration includes access to Trade Show Floor, Opening Ceremony, Education conference and Institute for Attractions Managers Program (Institute tuition and support materials, Lunch and Refreshments, Certificate of Completion) 

Who Should Attend? 

The program is designed for emerging industry professionals with five or fewer years of experience, who have the potential and commitment to be on a senior management team. 

The Institute covers the following five core subject areas: 

  1. Attractions Finance: managing capital, expense and revenue budgeting, and other financial tools. 
  2. Attractions Marketing: marketing, media relations, advertising, group sales, and public relations. 
  3. Attractions Leadership: human resources development strategies
  4. Facility Operations and Safety: industry regulation, facility management best practices, and crisis management. 
  5. Attractions Revenue Operations: food and beverage, merchandise, pay-per-experience attractions, and rental services revenue.

Doug Akers, ICAE

Universal Beijing Resort

Doug began his career at Busch Gardens Tampa in 1998, working through a variety of leadership roles and positions within the Merchandise Department, including VIP Tours, Vending, Revenue Auditing, Stroller Rental, and general retail operations.

Following several years working with Busch Gardens, Doug joined Universal Orlando in 2004, serving management roles in both the Attractions Operations department as well as Parking & Transportation. 

In 2007 Doug was part of the opening management team for Hard Rock Park, running the day to day operations as the Attractions Manager and working with a highly talented team to bring to life the park where “rock comes to play”. 

Doug joined Resorts World Sentosa in 2009 as part of its pre-opening and opening management team for Universal Studios Singapore, supporting the Attractions Operations department. Following the opening of the theme park and stabilization of operation, Doug had the opportunity to pre-open and launch the new Marine Life Park facility featuring Adventure Cove Waterpark, Dolphin Island, and S.E.A. Aquarium.  Doug has had the opportunity to cross multiple departments in a variety of leadership roles during his time at Resorts World Sentosa including all Operations divisions, Business Development, and Food & Beverage.

Doug joined his current role in 2016 as part of the planning and operational readiness for the Universal Beijing Resort, working closely with Universal Creative as well as the Chinese Partner.   In his role after successfully opening the resort – he is responsible for Park Operations – consisting of Attractions, Admissions, Guest Services, VIP Tours, Event Operations, Event Services, and Operations Safety/Compliance teams.
 
While maintaining an active career within the theme park and attraction industry, Doug is also a graduate of the University of Central Florida – Rosen College of Hospitality Management with a Bachelor’s of Science in Hospitality, focusing on theme park and attraction management.
 
Doug has also worked with AIMS and IAAPA in the role of show ambassadors for several expos both IAAPA Expo and IAAPA Asia Expo and is an active member of IAAPA while previously sitting on the Young Professional committee, Asian Advisory Committee, Asia-Pacific Education Committee, and former Chair of Asia-Pacific Membership Committee.

Yael Coifman

Yael is a founding partner of LDP. With over 20 years of experience conducting market and financial assessments of projects throughout the EMEA region, Asia, Africa and the Americas. She applies global knowledge and passion for the industry to every local market situation. Based in London, Yael conducts studies on stand alone attractions and museums or innovative leisure real estate projects that incorporate entertainment, retail and attraction elements into resorts and tourism destinations. She provides qualitative and quantitative analysis regarding entertainment concepts and content, strategic development and financial feasibility.  

Victor Danau

Victor Danau is a theme park and finance nerd. He was saved from a dull life on Wall St by the business of fun.  

As the Director of Operations & Development for the Asia Pacific region at Ripley Entertainment, Victor supports local franchisees and company owned locations across the region and works on developing new partnerships for Ripley’s collection of family entertainment brands. Ripley Entertainment owns or franchises more than 100 attractions across 11 countries and is the leader in Unbelievable Family Entertainment. 

Previously, Victor served as COO for N Kid Corp which owns and operates more than 25 family entertainment centers and attractions throughout Vietnam under the tiNiworld brand, leading multiple teams including marketing, operations, maintenance, and creative design.  

Prior to joining N Kid in 2015, Victor served as the Director of Education Programs & Services for the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) where he helped lead the organization’s training and development programs across the globe. Before joining the IAAPA team in 2013, Victor served as the Admissions & Guest Relations Manager for Six Flags America in Largo, MD. Having started as an intern at the park in 2008, Victor took on multiple roles within the operations team including Senior Supervisor, Training & Scheduling Supervisor, and Area Supervisor. 

In addition, Victor chairs the IAAPA Asia Membership Subcommittee and serves on the Global Membership and Young Professional Committees. He has developed and presented safety, guest service, and finance courses for various industry forums including IAAPA, AIMS Safety Seminar, and International Ride Training’s iROC school.  

Victor earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from the George Washington University School of Business and completed his MBA from the University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business. 

Randy Josselyn

Randy Josselyn, ICAE

Randy Josselyn is an expert in ticketing systems, theme park marketing membership programs and waterpark design/operations. Randy works at Gateway Ticketing Systems as the Principal for Wildlife and Conservation providing operational insight and best practices in the industry. 

Prior to joining Gateway Ticketing, Randy founded Trajectory Ticketing, a consulting company providing expertise for waterparks, theme parks and museum/zoos/aquariums. Prior to that, Randy was employed by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts where he managed new and existing ticketing projects, including the Annual Passport Monthly Payment Program. Randy was also the Director of Admissions and Hospitality at Wild Rivers Waterpark in Irvine, California where he worked for 15 years, working up through the ranks in a variety of departments. At Wild Rivers, Randy was responsible for ticketing systems, computer technology, website development, parkwide hospitality, pricing, guest services, and was a member of the Wild Rivers marketing team. 

Randy previously chaired the IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) Finance and Technology Committee and instructs the Institute of Attraction Managers program. Randy is a multiyear speaker at the IAAPA, WWA and other associations and is an IAAPA Certified Attractions Executive (ICAE). Randy and his wife Bria reside in in Nashville, Tennessee with their 5 children.
