The Emergence of Authentic Reality*
Monday, Nov. 18, 12 – 2 p.m.
From advances in technology to creating immersive environments that tell a story, attractions industry professionals must always look forward to what is new and what is next. Attendees will discover how the industry has evolved from a service economy into an experience economy and how the popularity of virtual reality is shifting into a desire for what this presentation defines as authentic reality. Drawing on his personal experience as a creative director, writer, and industry thinker, George Walker will look at current trends to help provide context and clues that look at this “next reality” and how technology enhances the guest experience rather than drives it.
Tuesday, Nov. 19, 8:30 – 10 a.m.
Attractions industry professionals from all over the world will come together and experience what it means to be one community during IAAPA Expo. The Kickoff Event is packed with the energy and excitement that sets the tone for the week ahead with lively entertainment, a look at the industry’s new trends, the 2019 IAAPA Hall of Fame Awards presentation, and more. Admission is included in Expo registration.
Tuesday, Nov. 19, 6 – 7:30 p.m.
The Opening Reception gives attendees the chance to reconnect with peers and colleagues from around the world, make new connections, and jump into an exciting week at IAAPA Expo.
GM and Owners’ Breakfast Featuring Christine Duffy, Carnival Cruise Line*
Wednesday, Nov. 20, 8:15 – 9:45 a.m.
The first roller coaster to set sail launches on Carnival Cruise Line’s Mardi Gras in 2020, but the relationship between the attractions and cruise industries has been growing for many years. Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, will look at the integral role attractions are playing in the future of the world’s largest cruise line. The GM and Owners’ Breakfast is one of the premier networking events for senior attractions industry professionals. The IAAPA Young Professional of the Year Award and IAAPA Service Awards will also be presented at the breakfast.
Game Changer – Creativity is the New Attraction*
Thursday, Nov. 21, 3:30 – 5 p.m.
Vince Kadlubek, CEO and co-founder of Meow Wolf, will discuss the consumer’s movement toward creative experiences and why unpredictable artistry is more valuable than either adrenaline or the replication of a familiar intellectual property. Through this lens, Kadlubek will share his futurist vision of the themed attraction industry and challenge the industry to consider the social impact implications of how money is spent.
