ORLANDO, FLA. (Nov. 15, 2007) — The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) announced the winners of its Must-See Waterparks awards Wednesday, Nov. 14. The awards recognize outstanding waterparks that provide visitors with a unique and memorable experience, and went through a comprehensive judging process that considered the quality of guest service, operations, and safety.
Chimelong Water Park, Hyland Hills Water World, and Splish Splash were all recognized at Wednesday night’s Waterpark Social at Wet ‘N Wild Orlando.
Chimelong Water Park in Guangdong, China, is one of this year’s recipients in their first year of business. After four months of construction, the park welcomed more than 750,000 visitors within a seven-week period. Chimelong features attractions like “Family Boomerango” and “Hawaii Water City” and is currently planning its second stage of building.
Another recipient of the award is Hyland Hills Water World, located in Denver, Colo. As one of the oldest waterparks in the United States, Water World will celebrate 30 years in business in 2008. The park features guest favorites like the “Flatline” speed ride and the dark “Voyage to the Center of the Earth” and spans 69 acres.
Splish Splash, which opened in Long Island, N.Y., United States in 1991, also won the Must-See Waterpark Award. Splish Splash has enhanced visitors’ experiences with the natural beauty of the park by conserving many of the original trees on its property. Splish Splash is known for rides like “Hollywood Stunt Rider,” and the recently opened “Alien Invasion,” a four-person raft ride with a life-size crashed spacecraft.
