Latest Federal Government Report Reaffirms Amusement Park Industry's Exceptional Safety Record

ALEXANDRIA, VA (USA) (Nov. 16, 2002) The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions ( IAAPA) today noted that the new amusement ride safety figures from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) indicate no statistically-significant increase in the number of injuries related to fixed rides since 1997, despite the fact that parks provided 190 million more rides in 2001 than in 1997.

"The new CPSC report reaffirms what 320 million visitors to parks already know – when you’re in one of America’s amusement parks, you’re in one of America’s safest places," IAAPA President Clark Robinson said. "CPSC data continues to show that there is virtually no safer form of recreation."

The report is published annually, and this year’s edition is entitled Amusement Ride-Related Injuries and Deaths in the United States: 2002 Update.
