IAAPA's Tips for Riding a Roller Coaster for the First Time

  • Check the park website before you arrive to read ride descriptions. Some parks even have virtual ride videos so you can experience the ride before you get on.
  • Start slow. Rides traveling below 55 mph with smaller hills will help acclimate you to the thrills.
  • Choose coasters without loops, launches, or huge hills as your first ride of the day. Work your way up to these over the course of your trip.
  • Check the rides with lower height requirements then tend to be less intense.
  • If you still aren’t sure it’s best to ask the ride attendant or anyone with a park logo on their shirt.
  • Pay attention to all safety instructions (verbal and written).
  • Have fun and enjoy the ride!
