IAAPA's Tips for Kids Planning the Park Day

  • Plan ahead. What three or four rides or shows do you and your family or friends definitely want to do? Make a ‘To Do’ list with those activities listed first. At the end of the day everyone in your group will be happy and impressed!
  • Once you enter the park - start your ‘To Do’ list from the back of the park. You’ll avoid most of the crowd so you might be able to get back in line a few times.
  • Visit on weekdays. Wait until school is out and then plan weekday outing to your local park. Weekends are usually busier.
  • Wear comfortable shoes! If your feet hurt you won’t have as much fun.
  • Follow all park rules! Pay attention to all signs and verbal instructions at the park – they are important.
  • Check the park’s website. You know computers better than your parents – check the website to see if you can buy your tickets before you arrive. It might save your family money.
  • Use Social Media. Ask your parents to follow your favorite park or attraction on Twitter or Facebook and look for special fan offers or insider tips.
  • Watch your local news for the weather forecast so you wear the right clothes.
  • For sunny days: pack sunscreen (apply it before and during your visit), wear a hat, drink lots of water, sit down inside for snacks and meals.
  • For rainy days: pack an umbrella and poncho, wear a hat, wear shoes with rubber soles so you don’t slip
