April 22, 2016

More Than 150 Top-Level Attractions Industry Executives Learn How to Evolve, Lead, and Excel during the 2016 IAAPA Leadership Conference and Latin American Summit

(Alexandria, Virginia, US) – To learn how attractions have implemented strategic plans to evolve, lead, and excel in today’s ever-changing world of entertainment, 155 top attractions industry professionals gathered in Mexico City, Mexico, March 9-11. Attendees from 30 countries participated in education sessions, networking opportunities, and guided tours of some of the area’s most popular attractions.

The conference began with a keynote presentation by Enrique Ramirez Magaña, owner of Cinépolis, the largest cineplex chain in Latin America and the fourth largest in the world. Ramirez talked about how Cinépolis has evolved and helped to lead the revolution of the movie-going experience with the introduction of a VIP experience with seat selection, stadium seating, a wide variety of food and beverage options, and lounge seating with call buttons for service.

Following the keynote address, attendees participated in education breakout sessions centered on excelling by evolving. Iliana Rodriguez, chief communications officer of Grupo Experiencias Xcaret presented 15 ways to be successful and turn challenges into opportunities during “Experiencias Xcaret Philosophy: How to Overcome Challenges and Become Industry Leaders.” Guido Benassini, chief innovation officer for Ventura Entertainment, talked about his company’s lessons learned and the philosophy of success through failure.

Participants visited seven area attractions, toured the facilities, and heard from staff about how the companies have evolved with the times to lead and excel within the region’s attractions and tourism industry. Facilities visited were Acuario Inbursa, Recórcholis, Papalote Children’s Museum, Six Flags Mexico, KidZania, the ancient city of Teotihuacan, and Reino Animal.

Participant Quotes

“2016 IAAPA Leadership Conference has been fantastic. I have attended IAAPA Leadership Conference every year since it started and it’s something I try very hard not miss. It’s a great opportunity to network on a smaller level, but with peers, and a great opportunity to see different facilities and get in-depth tours.” Denise Beckson, Director of Operations/HR, Morey’s Piers & Beachfront Waterparks

“There are very few opportunities we have to get to know other constituencies, whether you’re an operator or part of the M&S community. The IAAPA Leadership Conference allows people more time to get to know each other, which is very critical if you’re going to do a lot of business with somebody.” John McReynolds, Senior Vice President, External Affairs, Universal Orlando

“I love the industry and I don’t see people here [for 2016 IAAPA Leadership Conference] as competition, I see areas we can do good. As much as we can work together and share our challenges and good things, the better we’re going to be. That is what this is all about. We’re all in the same boat and we want the boat to be bigger.” Xavier Lopez Ancona, President, KidZania

“It’s fantastic…getting the industry together and seeing the rest of the world—not just how they embrace the industry, but how they take it to new levels.” Greg Hale, Vice President and Chief Safety Officer, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts
