Third Annual Event Takes Place for First Time in Las Vegas
Alexandria, Virginia (United States) – The third annual IAAPA 5K Fun Run and 1K Walk to benefit Give Kids The World (GKTW) will be held on Thursday, Nov. 19 from 7:30 – 9 a.m. during IAAPA Attractions Expo 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The run will take place at Pecos Legacy Park in Henderson, Nevada, a 20 minute-drive from the Las Vegas Strip and a relaxing departure from the trade floor excitement. Buses will depart from the Wynn Hotel and Casinoat 6:45 a.m.
The event, which attracted a record 150 participants in 2008, will generate proceeds for GKTW through participation or outside donations. Parties who wish to sleep in and support the event anyway can enter the Silent Runner program with a $25 minimum donation. New 2009 sponsorship opportunities are available and include on-site and pre-event recognition. In-kind donations for event participants, such as sun visors, water bottles, towels, and T-shirts, are also welcome.
“The race is a great time to see industry peers in a more relaxed setting,” says Kristel Fillmore, events and entertainment manager at Morey’s Piers, who participated in the event with 26 other Morey’s employees in 2008. “I not only met a lot of people, but became better friends with my coworkers. Morey's Piers will be involved with this again and again in the following years.”
“Give Kids The World is a wonderful organization with a great purpose, great program, and incredible results,” says John Wood, chairman and CEO of Sally Corporation, which has built several items for the main hall of Give Kids The World Village. “Providing special memories and family times to those who are in such dire straits will always be worthwhile,” he adds. As well as participating in the golf tournament at IAAPA Attractions Expo 2008, Wood was a silent runner in the 2008 Fun Run.
Registration is $25 for participants who register by Nov. 6. Anyone registering after Nov. 6 or on-site must pay $30. Interested parties can register online throughwww.IAAPA.org/expos/attractions/FunRun.asp. While participants are welcome to register for IAAPA Attractions Expo 2009, attendance at the trade show isn’t required to participate in the run.
