IAAPA to Offer Six Institutes and Symposiums as part of IAAPA Attractions Expo 2014 Education Program

(August 29, 2014) – The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) is offering six IAAPA Institutes and symposiums during the IAAPA Attractions Expo 2014 education conference. The in-depth educational experiences will provide attendees valuable learning opportunities in key areas of attractions management and operations. IAAPA Attractions Expo 2014 is the premier conference and trade show for the global attractions industry and will take place Nov. 17-21 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

IAAPA Institute for Rookies and Newcomers: Family Entertainment Centers
Saturday, Nov. 15, 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 16, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 16, 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.; Monday, Nov. 17, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. 

The IAAPA Institute for Rookies and Newcomers is a multi-day program designed for individuals considering opening a family entertainment center (FEC) and those who have just started an FEC. This year, participants can enjoy expanded networking opportunities with a pre-event reception at Dave & Buster’s, a facility tour to Fun Spot America, and IAAPA Lunch and Learn featuring Fun Spot America President John Arie, Jr. The Institute covers feasibility studies, business plans, financing, insurance, marketing, FEC design, game rooms, food and beverage, and more. A ticket to the IAAPA Lunch and Learn event featuring keynote speaker John Arie, Jr., president of Fun Spot America is included in the institute.

IAAPA Institute for Attractions Managers
Sunday, Nov. 16, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Monday, Nov. 17, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Tuesday, Nov. 18, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The IAAPA Institute for Attractions Managers is a two-and-a-half day management development program that blends classroom instruction with hands-on learning designed for professionals with two-to-five years of experience in the attractions industry. The program will focus on five subject areas: finance, marketing, leadership, operations and safety, and revenue.

Notes: Separate ticket and Expo badge required for entry.  The IAAPA Institute for Attraction Managers participant registration fee includes: program tuition and support materials, Expo registration, daytime meals and refreshments (includes the Lunch and Learn event on Monday, Nov. 17, 12 - 2 p.m.), reserved seating at the Kickoff Event, certificate of completion. Program participation is eligible for  IAAPA Certification continuing education (CE) hour requirements.

IAAPA Human Resources Symposium
Tuesday, Nov. 18, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Wednesday, Nov. 19, 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The IAAPA Human Resources Symposium is a one-and-half day program that will delve into the topics of employee retention, training, leadership development, recognition, coaching, and more. Participants will learn from experts such as Joel Manby, CEO of Herschend Family Entertainment, and Kirsten Abbott-West of Universal Orlando Resort. On day two, participants will tour the Disney University training facility, hear presentations by Disney leaders, and engage in conversation with Disney team members during lunch.

Notes: Participants must be 18 years or older and be enrolled in the IAAPA Human Resources Symposium to attend. Separate ticket and Expo badge required for entry. Program fee includes: program tuition and support materials; Disney University tour (Wednesday); daytime meals and refreshments; certificate of completion. Program participation is eligible for IAAPA Certification continuing education (CE) hour requirements.

NEW IN 2014! IAAPA Laser Tag Symposium
Thursday, Nov. 20, 3:30 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.

The IAAPA Laser Tag Symposium is new in 2014 and is designed specifically for laser tag owners and operators. This course will offer facility participants an opportunity to create a product “wish list” for supplier companies and to hear directly from laser tag equipment suppliers about unique product features and future trends. 

Registration Fee Per Participant: Free to IAAPA members with their Expo registration. Nonmembers must purchase access to the Education Conference Program (US$329), which includes participation in the IAAPA Laser Tag, Emergency Preparedness, and Inflatables Symposia.

IAAPA Emergency Preparedness Symposium
Friday, Nov. 21, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

The IAAPA Emergency Preparedness Symposium will teach business owners, operators, directors, and managers how to create and conduct emergency drills and exercises at their facility designed to save lives and reduce property loss.

Note: Due to its popularity, IAAPA has included the IAAPA Emergency Preparedness Symposium on the Expo registration form. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged; and is the best way to ensure sufficient seating at this Symposium. However, space will not be held for pre-registered guests once the session begins. 

Registration Fee Per Participant: Free to IAAPA members with their Expo registration  Nonmembers must purchase access to the Education Conference Program (US$329), which includes participation in the IAAPA Laser Tag, Emergency Preparedness  and Inflatables Symposia.

IAAPA Inflatables Symposium
Friday, Nov. 21, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Inflatable operators who rent their attraction, operate it at special events, or maintain their attraction at a family entertainment center will want to participate in the IAAPA Inflatables Symposium. This half-day education program teaches operators how to operate their inflatable attraction safely and effectively.

Note: Due to its popularity, IAAPA has included the IAAPA Inflatable Symposium on the Expo registration form. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged; and is the best way to ensure sufficient seating at this Symposium. However, space will not be held for pre-registered guests once the session begins. 

Registration Fee Per Participant: Free to IAAPA members with their Expo registration.  Nonmembers must purchase access to the Education Conference Program (US$329), which includes participation in the the IAAPA Laser Tag, Emergency Preparedness, and Inflatables Symposia.

IAAPA Attractions Expo 2014 registration is required to attend any of these events. A separate ticket may be required for certain events. To purchase separate tickets, attendees may add each event they would like to attend on the “Ticketed Events” page of the registration portal. Space is limited and events traditionally sell out quickly, so please register now.
