CONEY ISLAND, April 19, 2013 –In partnership with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), the HireNYC Program, Councilman Domenic M. Recchia, Jr. and with support from Workforce 1 and Small Business Services, the Alliance for Coney Island announces a second round of job screening events in Coney Island. This is the 4thannual job screening event targeting locals for job placement opportunities within the iconic Coney Island amusement district. This workforce initiative is a collaboration among local community partners, including the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office, Community Board 13, Astella Development and NYCHA. Each year the program provides hundreds of job placement opportunities for hundreds of local residents. Last year, over 1,600 candidates were screened at 4 events to fill 500 open positions, many of which were filled by local Coney Island residents. This year, hundreds of candidates have already been screened in a previous round of screening events which took place during the winter. There are even more open positions available at next week’s screening event, offering 325 available positions for Coney Island’s official summer kick-off on Memorial Day weekend. As the Coney Island community continues to recover from the effects of Superstorm Sandy, workforce development programs such as these provide direct benefits to local residents, and demonstrates resiliency as we look forward to another record breaking year in Coney Island.
