IAAPA Attractions Expo Returns to Orlando in November

Attractions Industry’s Premier Conference and Trade Show Promises Products From More Than 1,000 Exhibitors, 90-Plus Education Sessions, and Five Days of Networking Events

 

Sept. 23, 2010 – The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) brings the premier annual conference and trade show for the attractions industry, IAAPA Attractions Expo, back to Orlando Nov. 15 – Nov. 19, 2010. The Expo will be held at the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC); the conference and education programs run from Monday, Nov. 15 to Friday, Nov. 19, and the trade show floor is open Tuesday, Nov. 16 through Friday, Nov. 19. 

More than 25,000 participants from 100 countries will benefit from the more than 90 education sessions, daily networking events, andproducts and services from more than 1,000 exhibitors. The Expo is the all-in-one marketplace for operators and suppliers of theme parks, waterparks, family entertainment centers, zoos, aquariums, museums, science centers, casinos, and resorts. A mix of industry newcomers and longtime veterans will experience the latest attractions, conduct business, network with peers, and learn about industry trends.

Industry Innovations Fill Nine Miles of Aisles
Creative, imaginative, and groundbreaking products and ideas will pack more than 400,000 square feet of exhibit space at IAAPA Attractions Expo 2010. This year, more than 220 exhibitors are expected to show a brand-new product on the show floor. Attendees will also have access to more than 165 first-time exhibitors. 

Product categories on the trade show floor include all aspects of attractions operations from design and construction to operations, guest services, and human resources. The more than 120 categories also include rides (dry and wet), shows and productions, games and devices, participatory play equipment, novelties and souvenirs, photography, food and beverage, displays and sets, facility and grounds, and admission and financial equipment.

Opportunities to Learn: Institutes, Seminars, and Behind-the-Scenes Tours
The education program at IAAPA Attractions Expo 2010 includes more than 90 sessions, seminars, and presentations that cover key topics, such as revenue operations, human resources and leadership, facility operations and safety, financial management, and marketing and public relations. Also, one- and two-day-long Institutes offer the opportunity for managers to learn the details of attractions management.

New this year is the Social Media Symposium on Friday, Nov. 19, which will cover a range of topics about how attractions of all types use social media tools to develop new relationships with guests, drive attendance,generate revenue, and communicate with employees.

Institutes:
Rookies and Newcomers will debut this year at IAAPAAttractions Expo 2010. The day-in-a-half seminar for family entertainment center (FEC) professionals will cover topics including how to open an FEC, how to market and manage an FEC, and ways to maintain a successful operation.

Institute for Attractions Mangers is a two-and-a-half-day program designed for industry professionals with two to five years of management experience and includes a blend of classroom instruction, case study, and field work. Attendees will gain a solid understanding of the key disciplines and processes required to manage a successful attraction.

Other Institute programs focus on asset protection, motivating employees, and managing innovation.

Keynote Addresses:
The education program offers numerous opportunities to hear from successful attractions industry executives. 

Herschend Family Entertainment President and CEO Joel Manby will discuss his experience on the CBS show “Undercover Boss,” lessons learned, and how the company incorporates leadership principles in its daily operations on Monday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. 

Roland Mack, managing partner of Europa-Park, will share the history of Europa-Park and some of his biggest challenges and opportunities over the years onWednesday, Nov. 17 at noon. 

Seminars:
Education courses and seminars address hot topics, trends, and best practices in marketing, food and beverage operations, loss prevention and safety, new technologies, sponsorship, crisis management, midway games, and legal and regulatory issues.

Instructive Tours:
There are a variety of behind-the-scenes tours that offer unique learning experiences and provide an insider view of attraction operations.

The midway games tour at SeaWorld Orlando will take participants through Happy Harbor and Penguin Plaza, and highlight successes with hi-tech cashless systems and demonstrate how to use various cash receipt tracking systems on Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 8:30 a.m. 

The live entertainment tour of Disney’s Hollywood Studios will allow participants to visit the creative costuming department, visit the sets of live Disney productions, see how the productions are put together, and talk with Disney production staff on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 4:30 p.m.

A tour of the innovative exhibits at the Kennedy Space Center will show the latest in technology and the challenges of running an attraction in the heart of the most famous space facility in the world onWednesday, Nov. 17 at 8:30 a.m.
