Attractions Industry Professionals Raise $115,000 for Give Kids The World Village During IAAPA Attractions Expo 2013

(Nov. 27, 2013) – The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) and attractions industry professionals raised more than $115,000 for the association’s 18-year charity partner, Give Kids The World (GKTW) Village in Kissimmee, Florida, through private donations and four events held during IAAPA Attractions Expo 2013. Proceeds from IAAPA’s International Charity Golf Tournament, Motorcycle Ride, 5K/1K Fun Run and Walk, Footprints from the Heart, Chance to Win raffle, and private donations benefit the nonprofit resort that provides cost-free vacations for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

“We are overwhelmed by the tremendous outpouring of love and support from the IAAPA family throughout the Expo," said GKTW President Pam Landwirth. "Through IAAPA Attractions Expo 2013 events and individual check donations, a record amount was raised this year! Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to everyone who has embraced our mission and helps us create the happiness that inspires hope for our precious guests.”

IAAPA International Charity Golf Tournament
One hundred fifty-two attractions industry professionals enjoyed a day at Hawk’s Landing Golf Club at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort on Sunday, Nov. 17. The foursome of John Andrews of Baynum Painting, Bill Bohl of DBGC, Inc., Walter Bowser of Millennium Elastomers, and Mike North of Millennium Wheels  won the golf tournament. The foursome of Scott Camp of Aquatic Source, Barry Gertz of Neptune-Benson, Sandy Gertz of Neptune-Benson, and Chris Perry of Wild Wadi Water Park finished second.

Jack Morey of Morey’s Piers and Franceen Gonzales of Whitewater West won the longest drive contest in the men’s and women’s categories.

IAAPA Motorcycle Ride
IAAPA’s fourth annual motorcycle ride sent more than 40 riders from Orlando Harley Davidson, the ride’s start and end point, cruising through the scenic landscape surrounding Orlando.

The ride took place in conjunction with the golf tournament on Sunday, Nov. 17, and was broken into two parts, allowing riders to join golfers at Hawk’s Landing for a networking lunch. 

IAAPA 5K Fun Run and 1K Walk, Footprints from the Heart
Thursday, Nov. 21, 208 participants took part in the IAAPA 5K Fun Run and 1K Walk, Footprints from the Heart, to support GKTW. 

On the men’s side, Cameron Fullerton of Rushmore Tramway finished first with a time of 17:56, and William Flores of Adventure Island finished second with a time of 19:32.

For the women, Sarah Simons of Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) won the race with a time of 24:38, and Chloe Hausfield of Jack Rouse Associates finished second with a time of 25:19.

The highest individual fundraiser was Sarah Simons of TSSA, who raised $1,410. The most successful team fundraiser was the Themed Entertainment Association, which raised a total of $2,749.

Throughout the week, Expo participants entered IAAPA’s annual Chance to Win raffle in hopes of winning a five-day Royal Caribbean Diamond Cruise.
