Letter from the Interim President & CEO

LETTER_McEvoyI Am Here to Serve

Dear IAAPA Members:

This is a vibrant era in IAAPA’s rich history. It is an honor to be entrusted as the leader of this great organization in the interim as we celebrate the past and build the future—a future that is bright beyond our wildest imagination.

Our industry is respected and admired across business landscapes, continents, and cultures. We are the dreamers, designers, builders, educators, curators, and guardians of wonder and excitement. Together as one industry, the collective joy we create leads to lasting memories.

In the weeks ahead, IAAPA’s brand study will continue to evolve, along with work on a new five-year strategic plan. We anticipate a spring groundbreaking on our new global headquarters building in Orlando, designed around serving you. This exciting new facility will be built from the ground up with the goal of further engaging our more than 5,600 facilities, suppliers, and individual members from more than 100 countries.

During the past year as IAAPA’s chief financial officer, I’ve had the good fortune to meet many dynamic members while visiting Europe, Asia, and Mexico. At IAAPA FEC Summit 2018 in California, it was my honor to lead the first of several toasts to IAAPA’s past, present, and future this year as members around the world celebrate our centennial. In conversations with you, it is readily apparent we share the same vision: provide the safest, most immersive, and innovative guest attractions in the world.

I thank outgoing IAAPA President and CEO Paul Noland for leading our strong organization through tremendous growth over the past five years. With Paul at the helm, the team at our global headquarters moved from Washington, D.C., to Orlando, saw three global trade shows continually outperform projections, and opened our fifth regional office in Shanghai in January. I have large shoes to fill—yet I am not alone in this journey. IAAPA’s greatest strength rests in its people.

I value the support of IAAPA Chairman of the Board Andreas Andersen, along with our board of directors and almost 300 active committee members who stand ready to assist me. Their dedication is something I experienced firsthand when I served as a volunteer on the IAAPA Audit Committee. In addition, I am proud to partner with a group of dedicated and diverse professionals in IAAPA offices around the world. Our team of global citizens inspires me on a daily basis. We’ve assembled a world-class collection of people who share a passion for the attractions industry.

Never could I have imagined as a part-time accounting clerk at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay in 1975 the adventure that awaited me in this great industry. More than four decades later, I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity to support you, and the IAAPA team.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me or our global offices when we can be of assistance. We are here to serve you.

With Gratitude,

Hal McEvoy
