Letter from the Chairman - March 2019

Our Diverse Mix of Voices

Dear IAAPA Member,

One thing that has always struck me as really special about IAAPA is the incredible diversity of experiences our member attractions offer to guests. Add to that the different cultures and perspectives we represent, and you quickly realize the size and scale of our member organizations couldn’t be broader. Google CEO Sundar Pichai said recently, “A diverse mix of voices leads to better discussions, decisions, and outcomes for everyone.” I couldn’t agree more.

This issue of Funworld puts the spotlight on the creative efforts of IAAPA’s members representing museums, zoos, aquariums, and cultural institutions. As the first IAAPA chair who hails from that sector of the attractions industry, I can personally attest I’ve incorporated many practices at Monterey Bay Aquarium that I’ve gleaned from colleagues in the association—practices that have, in turn, led to measurable increases in our overall guest satisfaction and other key metrics.

On the flip side, museums, zoos, aquariums, and cultural institutions have much to offer our colleagues. For example, our industry’s expertise includes building deep emotional bonds with our visitors. This increases both affinity and repeat visitation (qualities that are often passed down to the next generation).

Our association provides many opportunities to learn from one another. Through IAAPA’s conferences, expos, and online resources, we can connect, share stories, and find approaches that others have pioneered—ones that will make our own organizations stronger and more successful.

I look forward to learning and sharing with you throughout 2019 at IAAPA events around the world.

Best Wishes,
David Rosenberg
2019 IAAPA Chairman of the Board
