Merlin Entertainments sees revenue rise 11.6% in 2017
Merlin Entertainments reported revenue of £1.59 billion during 2017, up 11.6% from the previous year as attendance across its parks worldwide rose 3.5% to a record 66 million. The company noted a significant boost coming from its Legoland business, which reported an 18.2% rise in revenue in 2017. Merlin's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization was £474 million, up 9.5% from the previous year.

New season at Hersheypark in Pennsylvania to begin April 27
Hersheypark in Pennsylvania said it would open for the summer season April 27. The theme park will unveil two new thrill rides: "Breakers Edge," a hydromagnetic water coaster; and "Whitecap Racer," a mat racing slide. The theme park will also launch several new food trucks and a series of summer concerts.

Attraction details revealed at Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi ahead of debut
The developers of the 1.65-million-square-foot Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi on Yas Island have provided details about the indoor theme park's Gotham City zone. The DC-Comics-themed area will offer four attractions: "Batman: Knight Flight," simulating flight on the Batwing vehicle; "Scarecrow Scare Raid," which features barrel rolls and other aerobatic maneuvers; "The Riddler Revolution" spinning roller coaster; and "The Joker's Funhouse" experience with puzzles and physical challenges.

Ocean Park in Hong Kong to receive HK$310 million from government
The Hong Kong government said it is injecting HK$310 million into Ocean Park to revitalize the theme park. The government will also purchase 10,000 tickets to be given to students as part of a broader tourism program. Ocean Park said in a statement that projects to be funded by the government would be announced later.

Roseville Aquatics Complex in California reopens after upgrades
A grand reopening event was held Feb. 15 at Roseville Aquatics Complex in California after completion of a renovation. The upgrades to the facility cost $1.3 million and were funded partially through donations.

May 5 opening set for inflatable water park in Liverpool, England
A new inflatable water park called the Adventure Dock Co. will open May 5 in Liverpool, England. Operated by Industry Wake, the facility will feature the Dragon Tail, Tire Run and Ninja Jump obstacles as well as slides, rafts and more.

Johannesburg, South Africa, to get a KidZania
A more than 7,000-square-meter KidZania family entertainment center is set to rise inside Fourways Mall in Johannesburg, South Africa. A Boeing 737 will be among the center's attractions.

Work progresses on River City Roll bowling alley in Virginia
An upscale bowling alley called River City Roll is under construction in Richmond, Virginia, and is scheduled to open in April. The 22,000-square-foot facility will offer 20 bowling lanes, table games, a party room and a restaurant.

Pearl Harbor exhibit now open at Ripley's Aquarium in South Carolina
Ripley's Aquarium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, has opened a new exhibit on Pearl Harbor. The exhibit features interactive pieces and historical information to educate visitors about the events at Pearl Harbor and presents a message on conservation.

Video released of plans for St. Louis Aquarium in Missouri
A new video shows what the St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station in Missouri will look like when completed. The $45 million facility is under construction and expected to open by summer 2019.

Tourist killed by tiger while attempting to enter Chinese zoo illegally
A man died in a tiger attack at the Youngor Zoo in China's Zhejiang Province. The man had attempted to enter the zoo without paying the entrance fee by climbing into the tiger enclosure. One of the tigers was shot and killed during the incident.

Plans under development for former Artegon Marketplace in Florida
Dezer Development and Prime Time Amusements continue to work on redevelopment plans for the 104-acre Artegon Marketplace in Orlando, Florida. One of the project partners involved says there are plans to add mixed-use development. Current tenants at the property include Bass Pro Shops and Cinemark Theaters.

"FlyView" VR experience to debut March 31 in Paris, France
A new virtual reality experience called "FlyView," slated to open March 31 in Paris, France, will take users on an aerial tour over the French capital equipped with VR jetpacks. A drone and seven cameras captured 360-degree footage that will be used for the experience. The facility will cover 800 square meters and offer 50 jetpacks.

Water park coming to Carnival Paradise ship in major renovation
The Carnival Paradise cruise ship is set to undergo a renovation that will add a water park with a splash zone, two 82-foot racing slides and a 300-foot "Twister" water slide. The upgrade will also relocate an existing mini-golf course and add 38 cabins and two new dining venues.
