IAAPA Recognizes Industry Leaders for Service, Vision, and Integrity

During the annual General Mangers and Owners’ Breakfast, IAAPA recognized four 2017 IAAPA Service Award recipients and a young professional for their contributions to the global attractions industry.


James “Chip” Cleary
IAAPA Lifetime Service Award

The IAAPA Lifetime Service Award recognizes a member individual’s consistent and long-term achievements serving the association and the industry for more than 20 years. A 35-year attractions industry veteran, James “Chip” Cleary, ICAE, of Europa-Park in Rust, Germany, has played an integral role at attractions worldwide.  He has been an active volunteer with IAAPA, leading and serving on many committees. In addition, Cleary served two terms on the IAAPA Board of Directors and was chairman of the board in 2010. Cleary also led the association as president and CEO from 2011 to 2013.


Ken Whiting
IAAPA Outstanding Service Award 

The IAAPA Outstanding Service Award is presented in recognition of a member individual who works to foster the spirit of goodwill, professionalism, and higher levels of performance within the industry. Ken Whiting, ICAE, of Whiting’s Foods in Santa Cruz, California, United States, is a trusted and respected leader in the food and beverage industry and has been involved with IAAPA for more than four decades. He has served on five IAAPA committees and is currently the head of the faculty for IAAPA Institute for Attractions Managers. In 2017, Whiting was elected to the IAAPA Board of Directors. 


Matt Heller
IAAPA Meritorious Service Award 

The IAAPA Meritorious Service Award is presented in recognition of a member individual’s service to advancing IAAPA’s mission by promoting safe operations, global development, professional growth, and commercial success of the amusement parks and attractions industry. Matt Heller, ICAE, of Performance Optimist Consulting in Maitland, Florida, United States, is a 25-year veteran of the attractions industry. He has volunteered with IAAPA for more than a decade. In addition, Heller’s involvement with the IAAPA Show Ambassador program for IAAPA Attractions Expo has inspired and positively influenced the next generation of amusement industry professionals.


Jim Pattison Jr.
IAAPA Board of Directors Special Service Award 

The IAAPA Board of Directors presented a special Service Award to Jim Pattison Jr., ICAE, president of Ripley Entertainment in Orlando, Florida, United States, and the staff of Ripley Entertainment for their outstanding service to IAAPA. The entire Ripley corporate headquarters team extended extraordinary assistance to the association during its global headquarters relocation this past year from Alexandria, Virginia, to Orlando. The Ripley Entertainment team provided IAAPA with temporary office and meeting space, that helped facilitate a smooth and seamless relocation.


Chloe Hausfeld
2017 IAAPA Young Professional of the Year Award

Chloe Hausfeld, director of marketing and business development at JRA (Jack Rouse Associates) in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States, received the 2017 IAAPA Young Professional of the Year Award, which honors members who demonstrate a dedication to the attractions industry through strong leadership, teamwork, and integrity, while continually developing their knowledge and experience.
