Push the Limits

Innovation comes in many forms. It can manifest itself in a new ride or attraction, in a creative new food item, or in less obvious ways like operational changes or efficiencies.

That’s where green operations come into play. A guest might not notice the reduced use of paper goods or even a windmill in the distance, but these additions are vitally important to a park’s well-being.

At Europa-Park, for example, we use solar panels and a centralized water treatment facility to reduce the use of groundwater for the park. Though these features don’t make a direct impact on a customer, they help the environment, reduce waste at the park, and keep operating costs low.

In this issue of Funworld, you’ll read about what other facilities are doing to protect the environment, such as a completely green FEC in Scotland; Singapore Wildlife Reserves’ environmental protection program; the Oregon Zoo’s sustainability program; and much more.

These inspiring stories remind us all that innovation is not limited to the things we can see and ride—it lives in everything we do!

I hope you’re as inspired by this issue as I am.

Sincerely,

Roland Mack
