Funworld March 2011

Chair Letter

Close to my heart

As you might have read in the November 2010 issue of FUNWORLD, I didn’t start out in the attractions industry, but I came to know and love it as my “home.”

I love seeing families walk through the turnstiles excited to spend time at my North Carolina FEC, Jungle Rapids, then seeing them walk out happy and satisfied from a day of rides, food, and family bonding. There’s no better feeling than knowing my staff and I had a part in their experiences.

That pride and energy shows through in this special issue of FUNWORLD. This month’s cover story focuses on a fantastic group of people—past and present members of the IAAPA FEC Committee. Contributing Editor Mike Bederka spoke to these inspiring industry leaders about the development of the FEC industry and the committee, as well as what they hope for as the FEC world develops and thrives. I owe a debt of gratitude to these game changers who have made the FEC industry’s growth possible and who have inspired me as I’ve worked with and for them as a part of IAAPA.

Also featured in this issue are forward thinkers in the FEC world who are taking their big-picture ideas and making them reality: facility operators folding health club- type elements into their operations; creative food-and-beverage ideas; and facilities using higher-tech solutions to increase group sales.

All of the interviewees and facilities in this issue illustrate just how varied, ever changing, and exciting this industry is and will continue to be. Enjoy!

Sincerely,

Bob Rippy, Chairman of the Board
