Subcommittees Meet to Prepare for 2011 Initiatives

In January IAAPA Europe had its first set of meetings with the European subcommittees for government relations (GR), education, and manufacturers and suppliers. The two latter sub-committees met in London to have a closer look at the facilities for this year’s Euro Attractions Show and to discuss the expo education program and member services for 2011.

The GR committee met in Brussels and was provided with a thorough presentation regarding IAAPA Europe’s role in EU matters. The committee also discussed how IAAPA Europe might improve its work on governmental activities in Europe. The new IAAPA European Manifesto outlining IAAPA’s political positions on various EU issues was discussed in great detail and will be available to all members when completed.

IAAPA Latin America: Spring and Summer Activities

This year IAAPA Latin America is working hard to offer more customized services for the Latin American community. In March, the regional office, located in Mexico City, offered a free members-only webinar in Spanish about employee retention. A webinar on edutainment is planned for the coming months and will be held in Portuguese.

April 5-8, members in the region will enjoy a second networking event in Bogotá, Colombia, that will combine behind the- scenes visits to local attractions in the city with educational content organized by the Colombian Parks Association. This will be a great opportunity for members to meet and greet colleagues while learning from industry leaders.

May 23-27, industry leaders can attend the IAAPA one day safety seminar, which will focus on safety in operations and crisis management, and the Latin American Executive Program in México City, which will include safety content and educational tours. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn and obtain tools to improve your businesses.

We are also preparing the first IAAPA Institute for Attractions Managers in Brazil for June 21-23. This institute is designed for midlevel managers interested in growing in their organizations and positions.

IAAPA Latin America is continuously adding customized services for members in the region. Please visit www.IAAPA.org/latinoamerica or www.IAAPA.org/latinoamerica/IAAPAversaoemportugues.asp for more details on these programs or for more information about our services and benefits.

Networking Events Connect Members in Asia

IAAPA’s Asia-Pacific office recently hosted two networking luncheons for members and partners. One was held at Marina Bay Sands Expo in Singapore Feb. 10, and the other was at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre on Feb 15.

IAAPA Asia-Pacific Executive Director Andrew Lee arranged these luncheons to conduct member meetings and to share future plans and activities for the region. The group also discussed plans for the forthcoming Asian Attractions Expo 2011 to be held at Resorts World Sentosa, June 21-24.

Both luncheons were attended by IAAPA members of these countries as well as representatives of the local attractions industry.
