IAAPA EUROPE
 EAS 2011 London
In 2011, Euro Attractions Show (EAS) moves to London and will take place in the beautiful Olympia Exhibition Hall, located in the center of the city. This venue, built in 1885, is no stranger to the leisure industry, as it for many years hosted a Hippodrome as well as Phineas T. Barnum’s “Greatest Show on Earth” circus. Mark your calendar for Sept. 27-29, 2011, for what promises to be the largest European Attractions Show so far. Find more information on EAS 2011 London on www.IAAPA.org/EAS.
Call for Nominations: 2011 IAAPA Europe Committees

- The IAAPA Europe Education Subcommittee is chaired by Marcel Schonenberg, Beurs van Berlage in the Netherlands, and is responsible for all educational products in Europe.
- The IAAPA Europe Government Relations Subcommittee is chaired by Alain Trouvé, Compagnie des Alpes, and oversees all IAAPA Europe’s EU public affairs activities in Brussels.
- The IAAPA Europe Manufacturers and Suppliers Subcommittee is chaired by Sascha Czibulka, Ride Trade, and advises on the Euro Attractions Show as well as all other issues of importance to this constituency. A Message from GKTW
Dear Friends,
In a few months Give Kids The World will reach its 25th anniversary; although we are a “youngster” compared to many of our wonderful IAAPA partners, we look forward to celebrating this incredible milestone with you. Through your boundless generosity and caring hearts, we have served more than 100,000 families from every corner of the world. For a few unforgettably happy days at the Village, our families are immersed in joy, hope, and unconditional love, creating cherished memories to last a lifetime. These treasured memories inspire our special children to renew their battles against the illnesses that have robbed them of their childhood, or provide comfort for those families who have lost their child.
In letter after letter, our families express their gratitude, sharing heartwarming stories of how the memories give them the strength to go on.
Dear GKTW,
17 months have passed since we came home from what was and always will be the most special week in our lives. Since Brigid came home she has had 11 surgical procedures, 9 hospital admissions, and we are now tied to our home. We could not have come at a better time—it gave her so much more strength to face her trials.
Brigid is just coming up on her 5th birthday now, and for a little lady, she sure does have a wonderful memory. Every day I hear some version of “a’member” when we went to Candy Land? “A’member” when we saw the princess bunny and the pirate bunny? “A’member” when Minnie had my purse?
“A’member” when Mickey wrote on his feet?
I sure do “a’member,” even if I did not hear about it every day. I do not think there will be a time even when Brigid is no longer with us that I will not “a’member” how amazing you all are and how much we owe you.
Thank you again—words do not express the difference you have made in her life and the memories that we all have because of your kindness and generosity. We are forever in your debt. Signed, the luckiest mom in the world
During IAAPA Attractions Expo, we invite you to visit the Village and see firsthand the happiness that inspires hope. I promise, you will take home some wonderful memories of your own.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you do.
With love,

Pamela Landwirth President, Give Kids The World www.gktw.org

Five Questions for IAAPA Asia-Pacific Executive Director Andrew Lee
This fall IAAPA welcomed its newest team member, Andrew Lee, as executive director, Asia-Pacific Operations. FUNWORLD asked Lee about his background and what he hopes to achieve in his new position.
by Amanda Charney
What is your new role as executive director of IAAPA’s Asia-Pacific Operations?
I will work to expand and enhance the association’s programs and services within the region, which means I will oversee government relations, communications, membership development, and education programs. I will also directly manage IAAPA’s Asian Attractions Expo, the premier conference and trade show for the attractions industry in Asia Pacific.
Through your work in the travel and leisure industries, how are those sectors growing and developing in the region?
There’s always continued interest in this region in terms of tourists wanting to visit China, Korea, Japan, as well as Southeast Asia and the Indian sub-continent. Additionally, there’s always an interest in investment in this area because economically these regions are growing, the travelers are more affluent, there’s a growing middle class, and more interest in intratravel. For example, short-term weekend breaks and midterm holidays are a lot more popular than long hauls to the States or Europe. While the travel and tourism sectors are growing, so will the attractions industry.
You saw some of IAAPA’s Asian Attractions Expo 2010 firsthand. What were your impressions?
Asian Attractions Expo is a growing show. There is a fair bit of buzz and excitement on the show floor because the Asia- Pacific region is the next growth region for IAAPA. In fact, growth in Asia-Pacific is literally increasing exponentially, and that is reflected at Asian Attractions Expo. There was a good, healthy buzz, and I’m looking forward to next year’s event in Singapore.
You have extensive experience with convention sales and marketing. What are the key strategies in keeping conventions and trade shows strong?
Bringing value to exhibitors and visitors will keep the show growing. And from the perspective of an exhibitor, what I want to see is quality buyers and quality visitors. As for buyers and visitors, what they are looking for is variety in exhibitors, variety with new products. Hopefully with my background in convention sales and marketing I will help to bring these up a notch.
What would you like members in the region to know about you as you take on this role for IAAPA?
I would like to bring a youthful enthusiasm; a new dimension; a new perspective. Hopefully I bring a fresh perspective to the industry by introducing new ideas, new marketing platforms, new education elements. I feel that to attract the next generation of members into IAAPA, education is an extremely important platform.
Congratulations to Long-standing IAAPA Members!
