Funworld March 2010

Chair Letter

Chip ClearyBeyond Our Back Yards

As people from around the world become more linked through technology, commerce, and culture, it is more necessary than ever to think beyond our attractions and our neighborhoods. When the world shifts, we all feel it.

World events, such as those we’ve encountered in the past 12 months, cause us to be even more intertwined as a global community. We, as attractions industry providers, need to remember our counterparts in other regions are grappling with the same questions, high-profile issues, and difficulties we encounter.

One of those key universal issues is safety, and as a member organization, we need to be there for our peers to support high safety standards worldwide. To reinforce this commitment, IAAPA holds safety institutes and seminars throughout the year so members can learn best practices from industry experts. This year, IAAPA will deliver this information in Las Vegas during Fun Expo; Kuala Lumpur during Asian Attractions Expo; Rome during Euro Attractions Show; Orlando during IAAPA Attractions Expo; and in three new locales in Asia and the Middle East (Beijing, Abu Dhabi, and Mumbai).

Everyone at a facility is responsible for providing safe fun for guests, and the goal of these events is to provide regular advice from experts and operators to members in these regions. They also allow for networking in a safety-focused environment; sharing ideas with peers is a critical part of success.

Take a moment to look beyond your back yard, and you’ll see how small our world really is.

Have a sparkling day,

Chip Cleary, Chairman of the Board
