Big Ideas
Innovation and creativity drive our industry. Without them, we wouldn’t have the tallest, fastest coasters, the spooky dark rides, interactive exhibits and games, spectacular shows, sophisticated ticketing or point-of-sale systems, or numerous other technologies and products that bring our guests through the turnstiles season after season.
These important developments came to fruition because creative big-picture thinkers had the drive to make their ideas see the light of day.
Every year, the FUNWORLD staff puts together an extensive special issue covering many of the innovations from the current season. Turn the pages and you’ll see the results of what were once merely ideas. They represent what our guests are looking for: interactivity, family experiences, and coasters that still manage to surprise at every turn.
Looking ahead, our guests will come to expect more from their leisure pursuits with each passing season. With so much instantaneous communication and interactivity, the next generation of engineers, designers, fabricators, marketers, and other professionals have a tall order to bring guests the next “wow” attraction or industry-changing technology.
It’s the duty of the entire industry to support the emerging professionals in these fields so they have the contacts, tools, and training they need to carry the momentum forward. As attractions professionals, you can accomplish this by encouraging your young trainees and new supervisors to take part in IAAPA’s Emerging Leaders events at all three IAAPA expos throughout the year and attend the Institute for Attractions Managers at IAAPA Attractions Expo 2010 in Orlando.
As you read about this year’s new rides, live entertainment, water attractions, and World Expo innovations (and much, much more), think of those young leaders who will create memories and experiences for our future guests—and how you can help them achieve the “wow” projects of tomorrow.
Have a sparkling day,

Chip Cleary, Chairman of the Board
