REMEMBRANCE:Mike Riley, president of Moody Gardens in Galveston, Texas, passed away Nov. 15, 2009. Riley began his career with Gal-Tex Hotel Corporation, Inc., at the Baker Hotel in 1965 and most recently served as its vice president of operations alongside his post at Moody Gardens. Known for his determined work ethic and kind disposition, he successfully coordinated oxygen tanks and refrigerated trailers to sustain the attraction’s cold-water animals during Hurricane Ike in 2008. He also worked on enhancements to Moody Gardens’ Rainforest Pyramid and was developing a 302-room hotel convention center in Lubbock. www.moodygardens. com

SWEET SUCCESS: Andrew Sutton, executive chef for Disneyland Resort’s Napa Rose restaurant, was one of four recipients who received the Antonin Carême Medal from The Chefs Association of the Pacific Coast, Inc. The 26- year culinary veteran was honored for his lifetime achievements and involvement in creating an award-winning menu. Sutton helped launch Napa Rose when he joined the Disneyland Resort in 2000.
STATE HONORS:Morey’s Piers and Beachfront Waterparks in Wildwood, New Jersey, was awarded the 2009 New Jersey Business of the Year award by The Rothmam Institute of Entrepreneurship. The honor goes to the most successful family-owned business in the state with annual sales of more than $10 million and specifically recognized the park’s community involvement, the employment track record, and multigenerational impact.

Bryant will implement the first amusement park at Dreamland Margate in Kent, United Kingdom, after the property was awarded a grant from Heritage Lottery and the Government’s Sea Change program.
