A Turning Point
In every cycle of life, there are moments—big and small— that change the current atmosphere or attitude and set us on a different path than where we were headed. I believe I witnessed such a moment in Las Vegas at IAAPA Attractions Expo 2009.
This past year has been the source of anxiety and uncertainty for many of us, and that continued even as we approached the world’s biggest industry event. But it wasn’t long before we saw the tide change, as thousands filled the registration lobby to receive their badges or piled into the ballroom at the Wynn to watch the Kickoff Event.
We are far from out of the woods with the economic situation, but what I personally saw in Las Vegas was a wholesale change of attitude in the attendees and exhibitors, who were there to do serious business for the coming year.
In last month’s letter I said those who can rise up and learn from the past and take risks for this coming year will be the ones who will survive. I believe those people came out in droves in Las Vegas. I saw operators making plans and taking bets to ensure 2010 is a better year. They’re not staying on the sidelines.
As industry professionals we need to harness the positive energy from the show and use it toward solid planning for a prosperous 2010. The forward momentum of clear thinking can help us move past a year that brought barrier after barrier.
Remember November 2009 and carry that energy forward.
Have a sparkling day,

Chip Cleary, Chairman of the Board
