LETTER FROM THE CHAIR
 The Road Ahead
AS SUMMER STARTS TOWIND DOWN in the Northern Hemisphere, our friends below the equator are just gearing up. No matter where our operators are located, we are all sharing a common experience: the financial markets have affected us all, and we have to prepare for the road ahead so we can secure a brighter future for our guests and our businesses.
That means investing in new attractions, refining guest service programs, and refreshing our facilities and offerings as much as we can. These goals can be accomplished carefully and cost-efficiently, but they cannot be abandoned.
Every August, FUNWORLD compiles its “New Rides and Attractions” roundup, which highlights the attractions opening this year. This special section showcases examples of innovations facilities of all types and sizes should consider to keep the guest experience fresh and compelling. Though we all had a tough few months, this collection of articles reminds me that despite hardship, innovation and creativity prevailed.
As we get closer to IAAPA Attractions Expo 2009 in Las Vegas, I urge you all—facility operators and manufacturers alike—to embrace innovation in 2010 and beyond. Also, foster a culture at your company that encourages and rewards innovation. Now is the time to be bold, not timid. Carve out time at IAAPA Attractions Expo for meetings and networking—those valuable conversations could lead to your next big idea.
All the best,

Darrell Metzger, Chairman of the Board
