This month’s issue of Funworld magazine takes a fresh look at two very different yet important aspects of our industry: entertainment and merchandising.

We’re not blowing the top off any simmering issues but rather exploring what it takes to deliver unique, live entertainment—show after show, day after day—and how keeping a sharp eye, and a sharp pencil, can keep retail operations on track.

The cover feature, written by Assistant Editor John Elderkin, profiles two roadside attractions in Florida that specialize in alligator-centric entertainment. Though these attractions offer a very specialized, niche product they are competing in the land of the giant mega parks. The feature includes long-time IAAPA trade show attendee Gatorland, whose staff is keenly aware of the need to know who their audience is and how to aggressively reach out to them with their unique, and somewhat startling, form of entertainment.

Another lead feature examines the behind-the-scenes action of Dollywood’s live entertainment auditions. Managing Editor Amanda Kazdoy visited with Dollywood’s entertainment team and had a chance to take a peek at what is involved in selecting top-notch performers, and just how stiff the competition really is. In this feature, Amanda introduces us to a few potential stars-in-the-making.
The magazine closes with a feature that dissects the issue of shoplifting at parks and other venues, and another on how several top souvenir companies succeed in the highly competitive retail world. Enjoy the April issue!

Best Wishes,
