U.S. REGULATORY AFFAIRS

IAAPA closely monitors regulations that impact the attractions industry. We strive to bring you the most up-to-date information on happenings in Washington, D.C. and across the country.

Current Issues

J1 Visa Reform

In late 2010, the Dept. of State announced a pilot program that would implement changes to the J1 Summer Work Travel program. It is expected the pilot program will form the basis for new regulations for the SWT, which is used heavily by the industry.

Global Entry Program

Global Entry is a travel program that provides frequent, low-risk travelers expedited processing through U.S. immigration checkpoints. Initial usage numbers are low. IAAPA believes CBP should work with stakeholders to notify travelers of the program, as well as work with foreign governments to expand the benefits to low-risk travelers from other nations.

Health Care Reform

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was enacted in March 2010. Many aspects of the law still need to be clarified through the regulatory process. For updates on the law, please visit our health care reform web page.

Toy Safety

Implementation of the Consumer Product Safety Improvements Act is ongoing through 2011. Visit our toy safety page for more information on this new law.

Pool Safety

The Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act went into effect December 20, 2008. For information on compliance, please visit our waterpark safety page.

Accessibility

New ADA regulations for recreational facilities go into effect in March 2011. The U.S. Dept. of Justice is working on further regulations for captioning, web sites, and self-service equipment. For more information, please see our accessibility web page.
