7 Intriguing Developments in the Attractions Industry

In this anniversary year IAAPA is celebrating the past and looking forward to building the future. But how will that future look like? What are the trends that will be the foundation of the progress in our industry? A task force consisting of professionals from different fields analyzed the current state of our industry and will share the outcome of that analysis during this not to be missed Lunch and Learn.



Michael Collins
Host - Michael Collins, Senior Partner / Founder, Leisure Development Partners

Michael Collins is a Senior Partner and one of the founders of LDP (Leisure Development Partners LDP). Michael has worked all over the world with most of the large theme park operating groups and developers, owners and operators of all forms of visitor attractions. Michael and LDP's work is in feasibility, business planning, improvement strategy and due diligence for attractions, entertainment and leisure real estate. Michael’s passion for the entertainment industry stems from his background as the fourth generation of a visitor attraction operating family.

Paul Kent
Host - Paul Kent, Senior Consultant Entertainment, Electrosonic

Paul is a senior consultant at Electrosonic, where he consults on Entertainment business; museum, theme park, visitor center and resort destinations. Paul has an education in technical theatre, and prior to joining Electrosonic, he worked on live event production, attraction design and operation companies. Paul originally joined Electrosonic in 1996 as a project engineer. In the following years he moved to Orlando and the Middle East as a Project Consultant. Following a brief hiatus away from Electrosonic, Paul re-joined the company in 2012. He has an extensive experience in master planning, entertainment technology, construction management and operations, which he brings to all of the projects he is involved in.

Patrick Janssen
Patrick Janssen, CEO, Famous Obstacles & Gameshows

Patrick has been an entrepreneur in leisure for over 20 years. His 27-hectare park and beach are in the middle of the Netherlands and offers over 100+ different activities for business events, bachelor parties and recreational visitors.

In 2013 Patrick became the exclusive license of the TV-show format Wipeout and he build an official Wipeout course as an attraction for his visitors. Quite successful, because last year he got the license of brand owner Endemol Shine to sell his Wipeout parks creation all over the world!

So, Patrick’s experience in ‘Active Leisure’ is key. He can tell you what visitors expect, how trends evolve and the do’s and don’ts that make you successful.

Tobias Mundinger, Head of Animation, IP-brands & Licensing, Europa-Park / MackMedia

Tobias Mundinger is responsible for Brands & Licensing at MackMedia. MackMedia acts as an IP agency for Europa-Park Germany, which is the world’s largest seasonal theme park. His responsibility focuses on the corporate management and strategic development of IP topics at MackMedia and within Europa-Park. This includes the implementation of IP’s in attractions, digital products and media productions. IP’s for merchandise applications and media products like attraction content, 4D movies, Coastiality VR content are licenced to various external partners. Besides his position at MackMedia Tobias is part of the Media & Digital Development team at Europa-Park.

Niels De Wildt
Niels de Wildt, General Manager, Beekse Bergen

Niels de Wildt comes from a very entrepreneurial family. Therefore, he developed a fascination with entrepreneurship at a young age. After hotel school, he starts at NOC*NSF Papendal where he eventually becomes Supervisor of Operations. In 2010 Niels starts working at leisure concern Libéma as General Manager of Sportiom and Holidaypark Dierenbos. At the end of 2014, he becomes General Manager of Beekse Bergen, where he is directly involved in the development of a unique park: Safari Resort Beekse Bergen. Meanwhile, since April 2018, our guests are staying overnight in beautiful lodges between the African animals.

Tom Lionetti-Maguire
Tom Lionetti-Maguire, Founder & Director, Little Lion Entertainment

Tom is one of the Founder Directors of Little Lion Entertainment, who own and operate The Crystal Maze Experiences in the UK. LLE are now focussed on translating their successes in the UK to overseas territories in the Middle East, Asia and the USA, with many exciting new projects in the pipeline. The Crystal Maze Live Experience has been a 5 Star sell-out critical and commercial success, and the London venue won a Worldwide Attraction Award in 2016/17. In 2017, The Little Lion Entertainment Directors were shortlisted for an Entrepreneur of the Year Award by Barclays.

Rik Stapelbroek
Rik Stapelbroek, Owner, Real Life Gaming

Rik Stapelbroek is the founder of the experience production company Real Life Gaming. The company was formed shortly before the launch of the unique and one in a kind Prison Escape production. It's a 3 hours long experience that takes place in a real prison, which currently hosts up to 400 attendees per show. Players try to escape from a cast consisting of 80 professional interactive actors in different roles such as the warden, guards and prisoners. This production is a prime example of an event within the experience economy and a fitting addition to the Real Life Gaming and Escape Room sector within the leisure industry.

Before starting Real Life Gaming, Rik studied Small Business & Retail Management and worked as a social worker. Nowadays he has found his passion, which is creating synergy in teams of creatives so that unique productions come to life for the audience to enjoy.

Matteo Perino
Matteo Perino, COO, EuropaCity

Matteo joined the EuropaCity project team as Chief Operating Officer in 2016. Previously a Program then Operations Director for a leading French real estate developer, he is now in charge of leading the development of this new leisure destination in Greater Paris: giving EuropaCity a new masterplan within the public development area, organizing a major architecture competition to select 8 architects for the cultural and hotel buildings. Matteo is also at the forefront of the discussions with the main leisure and hospitality players, to make EuropaCity an outstanding and pioneering entertainment destination.
