Testing underway on "HangTime" coaster at Knott's Berry Farm in California
Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California, has begun the train testing phase of its new surfing-themed "HangTime" roller coaster. State inspections are expected to begin by the end of the month, and once approved the ride will undergo a testing period with dummies before it makes its debut in early summer.

Floating capsule hotel at Japan's Huis Ten Bosch theme park prepares for launch
Huis Ten Bosch theme park in Japan gave the media a first look at the capsule for its floating hotel service, which is expected to begin operations this summer. A trial period will begin this month for the capsule, which can sleep up to three people and features an accommodation space on the first floor and an observation dome on the second. Visitors can travel in the capsule to an uninhabited island, where the park plans to build a facility with attractions that include a dinosaur-themed augmented reality game.

Revesco Properties plans residential area next to Colorado's Elitch Gardens
A 62-acre area next to Elitch Gardens in Denver, Colorado, will be transformed into a city neighborhood with residences, workplaces and other facilities under plans by co-owner Revesco Properties. The River Mile project will also include a parking garage for the amusement park.

Plans unveiled for $446M Branson Adventures water park resort in Missouri
A water park resort called Branson Adventures is set to rise on 302 acres of land in Branson, Missouri, and open in phases through mid-2023. The $446 million tourist destination will feature a 100,000-square-foot indoor water park, an outdoor water park, a whitewater rafting course, a ropes course, 350 suites, 215 lodging cabins, RV campsites, restaurants and a spa. Tax-increment financing for the project was approved Monday by the city's TIF Commission, and a final vote is expected soon.

"Vanish Point" drop slide to open Friday at Adventure Island in Florida
Adventure Island in Tampa, Florida, is preparing for the Friday debut of its new "Vanish Point" slide attraction. "Vanish Point" features two 425-foot drop slides that send riders on a 20-foot freefall, and one 455-foot winding body slide.

Bids sought for planned aquatic center in Marshfield, Missouri
The 40-year-old swimming pool in Marshfield, Missouri, is set to be replaced with a new aquatic facility, for which the city is currently accepting construction bids. Set to open in May 2019 and feature a lap pool, a lazy river, two water slides, a play area and a floating walkway, the new facility will be built on a budget of $4.3 million, with funding to come from a recreation sales tax.

Upgrade to aquatic facility in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, to include splash pad
A proposed renovation for the Veterans' Memorial Pool at Lynch Field in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, would include two new water slides and a splash pad. The facility could also get an over-water zipline, a zero-depth entry area, a new pavilion and more. The pool is expected to close this summer and reopen in 2019.

KidZania plans to expand its brand throughout Asia
Children's entertainment brand KidZania, which originated in Mexico, continues to expand its brand across Asia. Outside of Mexico, the company is seeking franchisors to cover expenses such as the adaptation of the centers for local audiences, sponsorships and training and hiring of staff members. Currently, KidZania operates centers in 24 countries and will open 13 additional locations in the future.

Expansion continues for Acadiana Lanes in Louisiana
Acadiana Lanes in Lafayette, Louisiana, recently opened a two-story laser tag arena. In addition, a second phase of expansion will add bumper cars and additional arcade games.

Altitude Trampoline Park planned for Columbia, South Carolina
Work has begun on an Altitude Trampoline Park in Columbia, South Carolina. The space will cover 52,140 square feet and include a main court, performance trampolines, a battle beam, a foam pit, tumbler lanes, a rock wall and escape rooms.

May 25 debut set for exhibit at Henry Doorly Zoo in Nebraska
Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium in Omaha, Nebraska, will open the first phase of its $20 million Asian Highlands exhibit May 25. The new space will feature several new species of animals housed in an immersive environment that resembles a Himalayan forest and changes as visitors go higher into the exhibit. The full 8-acre exhibit could open in late April 2019.

Lincoln Children's Zoo in Nebraska readies 10-acre expansion
New animals are coming to the Lincoln Children's Zoo in Nebraska, including two Sumatran tigers, as work continues on their new habitats inside a $16 million, 10-acre new space. The renovations also include a giraffe habitat with an elevated viewing area, a simulated rain forest and a multilevel tree house. The expansion is slated to open in spring 2019.

National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium in Iowa plans Da Vinci exhibit
A Leonardo da Vinci exhibit will open May 12 at the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium in Dubuque, Iowa. "Da Vinci: The Exhibition" will feature re-creations of "The Last Supper" and a number of his other artworks, as well as life-size replicas of his inventions, including a submarine, tank, crane and helicopter.

New attractions coming to Three Rivers Park District in Minnesota
The Three Rivers Park District in Plymouth, Minnesota, is set to receive two new attractions this summer under plans by local leaders to draw more visitors to its parks. A mobile zipline and an inflatable planetarium will be among the offerings at a new event at Sochacki Park, which will also include slacklining, archery and other activities.
