Harbin Wanda City in China is now open
Wanda Group's $6 billion Harbin Wanda City theme park resort in China has opened. The 1.6-square-kilometer resort features a movie theater complex and an indoor skiing and snowboarding facility with six runs. The company has several other Wanda Cities on the way, including properties in Chongqing, Chengdu and Xiamen. South China Morning Post (Hong Kong) (6/30) 

"Rolling Thunder" at Alabama's OWA theme park unveiled in new video
OWA in Foley, Alabama, released a video giving a glimpse of the 800-foot-long "Rolling Thunder" roller coaster at its theme park area. OWA will make an announcement today regarding the park, which was set to open in the spring but weather caused construction delays. WKRG-TV (Mobile, Ala.) (6/29)  

Electric Ocean summer event underway at SeaWorld San Diego in California
SeaWorld San Diego in California, has launched its laser- and light-enhanced "Electric Ocean" nighttime experience. The new summer attraction features a "Cirque Electrique" live show performed by acrobats in LED suits; an "IllumiNight" show that simulates life at the bottom of the sea; an "Atlantis Ignites" experience aboard "Journey to Atlantis," upgraded with projection mapping effects; and "Manta reCHARGED," which features pulsing music and lighting while guests ride the "Manta" roller coaster. Australian Legends World project in Queensland to have housing element
Plans submitted to the Gold Coast City Council in Australia show the $600 million Australian Legends World theme park resort would include housing for more than 2,000 residents. Developer Songcheng wants to build a complex on 448,971 square meters of land in Nerang featuring a neighborhood center, a residential area and a tourism section with a 5,200-square-meter ski slope and a theme park. Transcona Aquatic Park in Winnipeg, Canada, opening today
The completed Transcona Aquatic Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, will have its grand opening today. Four water slides, a beach-style pool and two diving boards add to the project's first phase, completed several years ago. The water park cost nearly $7 million to build. Cassiobury Park in England prepares for opening of water park, hub
A water park with 30 water jets, fountains and paddling pools is expected to open Saturday at Cassiobury Park in Watford, England. The park will also open a revamped hub area with a cafe, changing rooms and a community area. Watford Observer (U.K.) (6/26) 

Texas water park closes slide after girl is injured in fall
Pirates Bay water park in Baytown, Texas, closed a water slide after a raft in which two people were riding hit a divider and turned over, causing one of the female riders to fall out. The girl suffered minor injuries. She was treated onsite by EMS and did not require transport. The water park released a statement saying in part, "The City of Baytown is fully committed to ensuring a safe and fun experience for our guests. City officials are working with the manufacturer to evaluate the slide and determine the cause. The investigation into the incident continues and we will share more when we have further information. TopGolf opens in Mexico
The TopGolf amusement center has opened a new venue in Mexico. Guests of all ages will be introduced to the concept and enjoyment of golf. Each golf ball will have a microchip that tracks the distance the ball is hit and the scores of each game. Ventura Entertainment is the operator of the new park. Saturday debut set for Round 1 FEC in Hicksville, New York
The first Round 1 family entertainment center in New York is scheduled to open Saturday at Hicksville's Broadway Mall. The FEC will offer a 16-lane bowling alley including four VIP lanes, an arcade, pool tables, ping-pong tables and karaoke rooms inside a 50,000-square-foot, two-story space. Flip Out trampoline park in Ashford, England, to open July 8 
Flip Out announced that its 28,000-square-foot location in Ashford, England, will open July 8. The £1.5 million facility will include trampoline space, slam-dunk areas, stunt boxes, dodgeball courts, wall runners, a free-running course, private party rooms and a cafe. Carnegie Science Center in Pennsylvania receives $7.5 million donation
Plans for a science pavilion at Carnegie Science Center in Pennsylvania advanced after PPG and the PPG Foundation donated $7.5 million, the largest gift the museum has ever received. The planned $29.8 million facility, which will feature STEM learning labs, exhibits and a multipurpose space, will now be called the PPG Science Pavilion. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (6/28) 

Maritime Aquarium in Connecticut prepares new summer attractions
The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk in Connecticut will showcase a group of flamingos on loan from a Louisiana zoo as one of its special attractions this summer. Mayor of Rivas, Nicaragua, announces major tourism projects
The mayor of Rivas, Nicaragua, has announced a multi-million-cordoba investment toward city tourism projects, which include the development of a new 25.8-million-cordoba water park and an 8-million-cordoba renovation of a natural park. Study predicts Spanish parks will exceed 35.5 million visitors in 2017
A study conducted by Spanish consultancy DBK de Informa has predicted attendance at amusement facilities in the country will exceed 35.5 million people in 2017, an increase by 3% over the previous year. The number could set a new record for visitors to the amusement parks, water parks, zoos, and aquariums. According to the report, as of May 2017, 127 amusement facilities operate in Spain. Adventure park to be built in Santiago, Chile
A new adventure park will be built in the Cerro San Cristobal area of Santiago, Chile. Parque Metropolitano will feature suspension bridges, a climbing tower and rope games.
