Meet the IAAPA Safety Institute Speakers

 
Jerry Aldrich, Owner, AIC
Jerry provides Global Consulting Services to assist the amusement industry in developing a safe environment in which to deliver exceptional customer service. He has acquired a diverse amount of amusement industry knowledge that has been cultivated during more than 43 years with valuable front line management and consulting experience including 27 years with the Walt Disney Company in an assortment of managerial assignments. Jerry offers his expertise in the areas of safety, risk management, maintenance and operational procedures, ASTM International Amusement Rides and Devices Standards and Guidelines, Incident Investigation, and Expert Litigation support for fixed park locations, the mobile amusement industry and major league sports facilities. Jerry presents workshops at industry related educational safety seminars on subjects such as; Incident Investigation, Crisis Management, Master Planning Signage, ASTM International Standards, Ride Safety, Government & Industry Compliance, Policies & Procedures, and Operational Guidelines. He assists the client to maintain a uniform balance that will provide a safe guest experience through innovative solutions, prudent planning, and fiscal responsibility. In addition Jerry contributes through current membership responsibilities in national and international industry related organizations. Jerry is committed to perpetuate safety programs and improve amusement industry or major league sports organization experiences through guest-oriented initiatives that achieve practical solutions for any client’s unique circumstances. Amusement Industry Consulting works with the Outdoor Amusement Business Association (OABA) Quality Assessment Circle of Excellence Audit Program where more than 100 mobile amusement industry owners have been evaluated and coached to provide an exceptional and safe guest experience.

Sergeant Katherine Severson, Calgary Police Service
Katherine Severson is a 20 year member of the Calgary Police Service, and has enjoyed a diverse career in patrol, undercover surveillance, training police recruits and since 2010 has been the Lead of the Emergency Management Team within the Major Events Unit. In her current role Katherine has been fortunate to gain experience in command roles for the Calgary Stampede, the 2011 Royal Visit, the 2013 Southern Alberta Floods and has served as the Calgary Police Service liaison in the City of Calgary Emergency Operations Center during many emergent events. She also is responsible for the Police Tactical Operations Center, teaching Incident Command Systems, and has the pleasure of working with the other Calgary Emergency Response Agencies to plan and coordinate major incident response. She has received the Chief’s Lifesaving Award, Distinguished Service Medal and Bill Shelever Memorial Award. Katherine is a life-long Calgarian who enjoys triathlon, mountain biking and cherishes time with her husband and twin boys.

Claudio Barrera, P.Eng, Vice President, Slides and Rides
Claudio Barrera graduated from the University of Toronto in 2002 with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in manufacturing and sustainable development. While with WhiteWater, Claudio has had multiple engineering and management roles within the organization including two of its divisions, WhiteWater Composites and Primeplay. Roles have included WhiteWater Project Manager, Composites Process Engineer, Quality Assurance Engineer and Product Engineer. In his current role, he is now WhiteWater’s V.P. of Slides and Rides.

Alexander (Sandy) Millar, CRM, Vice President, JLT Canada
Sandy joined JLT Canada’s Sport & Hospitality group in January 2013. Sandy’s unique approach and value to clients is informed by his 11 years of insurance experience and over 20 years of related work in the sports and recreation industries.

JLT’s Sport & Hospitality Group works with a wide range of clients including sports facilities, ski hills, helicopter and cat-skiing operations, amusement parks, amateur and professional sports organizations, adventure tourism and others. We specialize in tailoring risk management and insurance programs for these unique organizations. We have to address “traditional” risks involving property and liability, as well as emerging exposures such as cyber risk. Prior to beginning his insurance career, Sandy was with a large Canadian resort developer and operator for many years. His experience in resort operations, as well as product development and marketing combine with proven insurance expertise. This manifests in well crafted insurance and risk management solutions, as well as strong claim support and advocacy. JLT has extensive resources both within Canada and globally. A large part of Sandy’s role is to engage expertise within the company on behalf of clients with the overall goal of helping to prevent losses and controlling clients’ overall cost-of-risk. When not focused on the business, Sandy is a volunteer director with Vancouver Adaptive Snowsports Society, as well as a past Chair of the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance. He also loves to coach his children in both rugby and skiing and is an avid amateur musician.
