Ted Molter PhotoTed Molter
Director of Marketing
Zoological Society of San Diego

Ted Molter is the director of marketing for the ZSSD responsible for public relations, visual services, advertising, sales, and partnership marketing activities that support the World-Famous San Diego Zoo, the San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park and Conservation and Research for Endangered Species (CRES) the Society’s scientific division. He joined the Zoological Society in 1998 as the associate marketing director in charge of public relations.  In April 2002 he was promoted to director of marketing.

Ted came to the ZSSD from Sea World of Ohio, where he worked for 13 years. His tenure there included positions as a penguin keeper and aquarist, ultimately working his way up to become director of the public relations department. The demands of that position ranged from traveling with Airship Shamu to the filming of the movie Pirates with Leslie Nielsen and Eric Idle for Busch Entertainment Corporation.  He also directed crisis communications efforts for the Ohio Park including a highly visible ski boat accident in which several guests were injured.

Ted is a graduate of Kent State University with a degree in broadcast communications and a field of concentration in biology.  He is an active member of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA) currently serving on the annual program committee; chairs the education committee and serves as board member for the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA); and is a sustaining board member of the California Travel Industry Association (CalTIA).

With the opportunity to reach families around the world with the Zoological Society of San Diego’s key mission of conservation, education and family fun, Ted has continued to find ways to combine his passion for animals with an endless desire to share the wonders of nature through innovative marketing and communications programs in Southern California and beyond.
