Thoughts on Women in the Industry

What is the most pressing issue facing women in the workplace today, and how can the attractions industry influence positive change?
Being a women can have lots of advantages. We all face the same pressures; the secret is how you deal with them. No matter if you are a man or a woman. I find that being in the attractions industry and being a mother is a great combination!

If I had to pick one issue, I would say the most pressing one is prejudice. The prejudices that both men and women alike have regarding women taking over some fields of action that used to be men’s, though this has been changing dramatically in the past years. Today there are women with jobs that a couple of years ago we could not even think of.

How have you seen the industry evolve in regard to gender roles?
Lots of positive changes have been going on. I see IAAPA as an opened organization regarding genre. We can see many women seating in various committees, some of them being even chaired by women. The attractions industry as well as many others are evolving!

How have you built your network of women in the industry?

I have developed good relationships based on sharing experiences, best practices, and knowledge. Sharing would be THE word.
What is one piece of advice you’d like to convey to women starting their attractions careers?
In my opinion, I would say don’t be ashamed, do not hesitate making questions. Learning is the only way you can improve yourself. Stay close to those willing to share information. Be confident, trust yourself, know yourself!

Creating Careers of Distinction

How do you invest in yourself as a leader?
I have my space for therapy and for working out. I believe in knowing myself. I try to identify my weaknesses and turn them into a strength. Try to learn from failure in a healthy way. Making my good attributes stronger. Learning from people around me. Trying to build long-term relationships, based on trust. And trying to get the best from the people that work at Neverland!

What is your most cherished work principle?

Taking the bull by the horns, staying dynamic … and I enjoy it so much!

What do you consider your most significant career accomplishment?
I consider as significant accomplishments having been able to undertake a leadership role in the company and having guided the organization through a growth path. Nowadays, Neverland owns and operates 34 FECs operating in Argentina and Spain and employs lots of people. Making it a successful organization in difficult times regarding economics and social issues in both countries. Making my dreams come true! What else can I ask for!?
What has had the greatest impact on your career?
A career path under the close guidance and coaching  of the company’s founder, Marcelo Periales.
What has been the greatest challenge of your career?
Becoming the CEO of the company after the founder passed away. Being the second generation, strengthening the company´s value, but recognizing my own leading style.
What was the greatest piece of career advice you ever received?
I have so many! I have had the chance to be surrounded by great people. I try to learn as much as I can from everyone! Right know I can think of one I would like to share: Leading a company is like driving a car. You need your small rear mirror to look back and see where you are coming from. but in front you have that big windshield to see where you want to go.

The Future of the Industry

Why did you join and choose to stay in the attractions business?
I joined this industry because it started as a family business. I chose to stay because my uncle (the founder) showed me so much passion and love for it. I like this industry because at the end (good one) it’s about unforgettable moments, good experiences, with families, with children. Magic!
What makes you most passionate about the industry?
We work hard trying to deliver happiness, entertainment, and good experiences … FUN … and that is a good reason to start your day, the best way!
What is your vision for the industry in the next 20 years?
We will see new specialized competitors coming in, also new technology and trends. But it’s all about experience: based on new games and technology, and based as well on good operations. You have to have the latest game and at the same time entertain your customers with the best of practices, give them more than what they expect! People are seeking where to spend their money and time, where to put their budget and free time and get the best result, and they have more options every day. So we must improve and have better experiences every minute.
