COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS

Standing Committees

A standing committee reports to the board of directors and is expressly required in the association bylaws.  Its purpose is to structure and manage the board’s work. 

Executive - Acts on behalf of the Board between meetings of the Board and recommends to the Board the annual budget of the Association.

Nominating - Nominates slates of candidates to serve as directors subject to Board approval. Also reviews and recommends governance policiies.

Strategic Planning - Monitors and reports to the Board on the progress of the Association’s adherence to the adopted objectives of the Strategic Plan. The Committee also recommends to the Board any modifications to the Plan. The Strategic Planning Committee also writes the plan for approval by the board.

Audit - Has oversight of the accounting and financial reporting processes, systems, and performance of internal accounting and financial controls, the integrity of the financial statements, the annual independent audit of the Association’s financial statements, the engagement of the independent auditor, and the annual evaluation of the independent auditor’s function, qualifications, services, performance, and independence, the performance of the Association’s internal and independent audit functions, the Association’s compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to these Bylaws, including the Association’s disclosure controls and procedures, and the evaluation of the Association's risk issues.

Compensation - Establishes, reviews, and recommends to the Board the general compensation philosophy of the Association.

Investment - Monitors the performance of investments, reports to the Board at least annually on the status and investment of funds, and offers advice and counsel to the Board for the development of investment policy.

Advisory Committees

An advisory committee is established by the board of directors for the express purpose of advising and implementing strategic programs.  Its work is directed by the board through the strategic and business plans.  Advisory committees are not permanent like standing committees.  They exist at the will of the board.  It is recommended that a board member act as chair, whenever feasible, of an advisory committee.

Asian Advisory - Recommends direction and strategies on programs and services for Asian members including the Asian Attractions Expo.

Communications - Recommends policy and provides strategic direction for the association’s media relations and communication programs.   The committee advises on the association’s communications vehicles including the website and publications.

Education - Recommends policy and provides strategic direction for all association education, professional development, training, and certification programs. The committee works in concert with the entertainment, facility operations, finance and information technology, food and beverage, games, human resources, marketing, and merchandising committees.

European Advisory - Recommends direction and strategies on programs and services for European members including the Euro Attractions Show.

Government Relations - Recommends policy and strategic direction for the government relations program to the end that the interests of the association and the industry which it serves are communicated to the appropriate governmental agencies and that the membership is informed of the actions of the agencies which may affect the industry.

Latin American Advisory - Recommends direction and strategies on programs and services for Latin American members.

Membership - Recommends policy and strategic direction for membership recruitment, membership retention, and membership services in general.  The committee works in concert with the family entertainment center, museum, amusement parks and attractions, waterparks, and zoos and aquariums committees.  The committee is comprised of the chairs of these committees, or their representatives, and others so that it is representative of the membership demographics.

Safety and Maintenance - Recommends policy and provides strategic direction on safety matters and represents the Association on various standards writing and other safety related groups.

Constituency Committees

A constituency committee works in concert with the Membership advisory committee and represents a specific membership segment.  Its purpose is to support the strategic programs as directed by the strategic and business plans.

Amusement Parks and Attractions - Develops programs to provide services and recruit amusement parks and attractions members.

Family Entertainment Centers - Develops programs to provide services and recruit family entertainment center members.  The committee organizes the Top FECs of the World awards program.

Manufacturers and Suppliers – Develops programs to provide services to and recruit manufacturing and supplier members.

Space Allocation – Assigns exhibit space locations to exhibitors for the annual conference and trade show.

Museums - Develops programs to provide services and recruit museum and science center members.

Waterparks - Develops programs to provide services and recruit waterparks members.  The committee organizes the Must-See Waterparks awards program.

Zoo and Aquariums - Develops programs to provide services and recruit zoos and aquariums members.

Program Committees

A program committee works in concert with the education committee and represents an attraction operational area.  Its purpose is to support the strategic programs as directed by the strategic and business plans.  Its role is more tactical than strategic. 

Entertainment - Develops education programs to meet the needs of entertainment operations personnel.  The committee organizes the Big “E” awards program. 

Facility Operations - Develops education programs to meet the needs of facility operations personnel.

Finance and Information Technology - Develops education programs to meet the needs of finance and information technology operations.

Food and Beverage - Develops education programs to meet the needs of food and beverage operations personnel.

Games - Develops education programs to meet the needs of games operations personnel.

Human Resources - Develops education programs to meet the needs of human resources operations personnel.  The committee organizes the Spirit of Excellence awards program.

Marketing - Develops education programs to meet the needs of marketing operations personnel.  The committee organizes the Brass Ring awards.

Merchandising - Develops education programs to meet the needs of merchandising and retail operations personnel.  The committee organizes the Souvenir awards program.

Awards Committees

An awards committee is a committee established by the board for the express purpose of evaluating and selecting recipients for association awards.  

Exhibitor Awards - Selects recipients and makes presentation of all awards given to exhibitors during the annual conference and trade show.

Hall of Fame and Archives - Solicits and selects annual IAAPA Hall of Fame inductees. Oversees IAAPA’s oral history program and association archive.

Service Awards - Selects winners of a variety of service awards given out each year at the time of the annual conference and trade show.
